Wholesome Xmas movies to watch with 11yr old DD?

DD is keen to watch Christmas movies - she's 11 (will be 12 soon). We just watched Happiest Season which was sweet and mostly age appropriate. I was thinking of Love Actually next but have just seen in another thread that it is a 15 - and has a porn scene in it (I don't remember that)!!

Any other recommendations? Rating 12 or below but ideally not little kids films - she's seen most of those anyway. Miracle on 34th St maybe? (She's seen Home Alone).

Yes there's an awful unfunny story about 2 naked body doubles. Not appropriate for an 11 y/o.

At that age I loved Gremlins. Depends if she might get scared but it's mainly funny. There's also a scene about finding out about Santa so you might want to ff over that 😉

Loopylooooooo · 22/12/2023 08:06

Ah great thank you - I'd forgotten about Gremlins!!

She's quite into romantic films at the moment (!) - I also thought of When Harry Met Sally but again too grown up I think...

Moonstruck? Great romantic holiday movie.

And it's PG!

You've got Mail and Something's gotta give are good too

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 22/12/2023 08:09

I’ve held off on When Harry Met Sally so far (it’s my absolute favourite film but basically the entire plot is about sex!) but my 11-year-old absolutely loves Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping.

Xiaoxiong · 22/12/2023 08:10

Oh and how about the Family Stone - also PG

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 22/12/2023 08:10

If she likes romance and wholesome then maybe the hallmark ones? I think there's usually one on channel 5 in the afternoon

Saggypants · 22/12/2023 08:10

Home Alone 2
Elf

Lifeisgood1 · 22/12/2023 08:11

A boy called christmas
Christmas chronicles
Elf
Genie
Polar express

musicinspring1 · 22/12/2023 08:15

I quite rate Noelle on Disney with Anna kendrick but its never really mentioned so I might be in the minority !!
Non Christmas film wise that reminds me that my DD loves her Pitch Perfect films but I camt remember the rating of them.

arewedoneyet · 22/12/2023 08:17

Maybe It's a wonderful life, white Christmas - they're old ones but great ones

WmFnKdSg1234 · 22/12/2023 08:31

Fred Claus. One of my favourite Christmas films!

Meredusoleil · 22/12/2023 08:42

Mine loves the Princess Switch. And there are 3 films!

R00tat00tt00t · 22/12/2023 08:42

Little Women? The most recent remake or the Elizabeth Taylor version. Not strictly a Christmas movie but does have Christmas in it and has all the cosy, Christmas feels?

EllieQ · 22/12/2023 08:46

While You Were Sleeping is great, and it’s a PG rating.

The Christmas Chronicles are good fun, if a bit cheesy!

Klaus is an animated film on Netflix that’s very good - more thoughtful than you might expect, but also very funny.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 22/12/2023 08:50

Oh @R00tat00tt00t do you not like the 1990s one? I haven’t seen Greta Gerwig’s one yet, but adored the Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Gabriel Byrne one when I was growing up.

Loopylooooooo · 22/12/2023 08:52

SO many great suggestions, this has seriously saved our Christmas watching - thank you! I knew there must be PG/12 wholesome yet romantic christmas films I had forgotten about 😀

My 11yr old DD’s favourite film is Mrs Harris Goes To Paris, very sweet and romantic.

R00tat00tt00t · 22/12/2023 08:58

@CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes I don't think I've actually watched that one for some reason... I did enjoy the Greta Gerwig remake and think that would probably appeal most to an 11yo as they'd recognise the actors (I think Timothee Chalomet is in it?). The original is still my favourite though, makes me sob every time...

inappropriateraspberry · 22/12/2023 08:59

What about the Hallmark Christmas movies? My 8 yo enjoys watching them, very 'safe,' and very romantic!

StuffLoriThangs · 22/12/2023 09:03

I liked The Noel Diary on Netflix.

A Christmas Prince on Netflix is nice but a bit cheesy.

Oh! There’s Let It Snow and Dash and Lily (that’s a mini series but I really liked it) both on Netflix too.

puddypud · 22/12/2023 09:04

The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, The Santa Clause 3.

Noelle

A Christmas Prince and the others in that set. I think they are Hallmark type movies and look a bit cheap but my kids loved them. Also The Princess Switch

Jingle All the Way. It's is a family classic in our house.

Jack Frost

The Home Alone 2, the best one in my opinion. Mostly just because of the electrocution scene, gets me every time.

Muppet Christmas Carol

Sintel · 22/12/2023 09:38

Prep and Landing
Christmas vacation
A Christmas story
Arthur Christmas

babyboyHarrison · 22/12/2023 09:50

Miracle on 34th street is lovely and always worth a watch. But for films you haven't mentioned my favourites are the two Christmas chronicles movies on Netflix, Klaus is lovely too as was jingle jangle . The holiday is a 12 and should be fine. Family switch is also age appropriate. Princess switch films are quite nice
