DM has given me a few hundred quid to choose myself a present for an up and coming big birthday.

I’m stuck.
what would you choose?

TIA

A husband with the imagination to choose it himself?

I would like something I can keep.

DH is great thanks.
As my OP states, this is my DM who is elderly and has dementia.

Do you like to cook? Things like a Le Crueset cooking dish or new pans or knives. You'd use them every day for years and think of your DM when you do.

Or something like an expensive watch or other piece of jewelry that you wouldn't otherwise treat yourself to.

It doesn't all have to be spent on one thing either so you could do £50 on a handbag, £100 on something else etc.

Thanks @SquigglePigs
I’m awash with pans but I can see something along those lines would be good.

I have plenty of jewellery otherwise that would be an obvious choice

Big items I would love, or have already bought myself, a cricut maker, a KitchenAid mixer, a nice handbag, Garmin, iPad. How about a weekend away?

BasiliskStare · 22/12/2023 06:51

Do you have a garden / interested in gardening . if so a part of it could go for eg some climbing roses which would come out every year and be nice for you and reminder of your mother. ( I know she is still here but it is a present with some longevity )

OverTheGrip · 22/12/2023 07:10

@BasiliskStare
DM is/was a keen gardener so that’s a good suggestion.

tbh. I’m not sure she will still be with us by my birthday later next year and she has expressed she would like to get me something early.

I have a similar issue with a significant birthday next month. I’m currently scanning local galleries and art shops for either a ceramic or picture that I love and is within budget. Just visiting local small galleries has been fun and if I had it, could have spent a small fortune by now!

OverTheGrip · 22/12/2023 08:14

@ScoopyDoo

artwork or ceramics also good thanks

What about a tattoo? Completely out there idea…

other things you could keep, beautiful books, professionally framed family photo, personally like a piece of art - but it’s very dependent on what you like obviously

Morechocmorechoc · 22/12/2023 08:25

@Shoxfordian some people are so bitchy on here.

Morechocmorechoc · 22/12/2023 08:27

What are your hobbies? Is there not anything that you've thought, i really want that but can justify it? Fancy handbag? One of those waterfountains outside if garden. Luxury bedding. Maybe a piano!

A water feature for the garden
