Christmas spooky stories, anyone?

Officially the longest night, Christmas is nearly upon us and it's a dark and stormy night (well here in London anyway). Does anyone have any spooky stories to tell?

Mine is quite old but I used to live in a flat in Brighton many, many years ago and before I lived there, there was an accident involving two builders who had died in the flat whilst renovating it, I think maybe the scaffolding had collapsed. Anyway, on many an occasion I could hear voices in the flat on the top floor, was so weird and horrible to hear. I thought I might be imagining things but my friend who lived there for a while too said she had a similar experience.

Anyone else have a tale to tell👻

I saw ghosts last Christmas eve. It was terrifying and in the morning I didn't know what day it was. Completely changed my life though, and I'm trying to be a better person as a result

Mine isn’t very Christmassy but happened on Christmas Eve and is spooky so here you go ….

Every single night my dm would clean the kitchen as she liked it to be spotless for the next day. She never missed doing it ever. The first thing she did each morning was make a cup of tea.

I was 15 and had decided to stay up late and was looking out of my window till really late 1/2 am, not sure why, then suddenly I think I must have fallen asleep abruptly and had what I thought was the strangest dream ever , that I was being pulled very quickly and by something invisible down the stairs and out of the back door and behind the house to where there were some trees , it was quite scary and I had the overwhelming feeling I had to remember it, I didn’t see anyone but I felt a presence , I just felt pulled along then up very fast and couldn’t get my bearings, then I was being pulled whilst laying horizontally and seeing some kind of grey hexagonal drawing or vision on the floor beneath me then abruptly feeling dragged back into the house where I reached out and was grasping on to anything I could and my hand dragged across the kitchen surfaces and I remember in the ‘dream’ feeling like I had to make a mark and remember. Then just darkness.

I woke up Xmas morning feeling unwell and nauseous and like I’d had a migraine. Tried to just cheer up and went to open gifts etc and felt a huge amount better. Then dm went to make us all tea and started ranting why was there mud all over the kitchen sides by the kettle. I ran out and it was as I remembered. I never told her I just couldn’t speak , I felt sick again and everyone thought it was Xmas over excitement but the truth was I was terrified. I had a bad few months with anxiety after that.
Looking back I wonder if it was sleep paralysis and sleep walking ? If I think about it too much I feel extremely anxious

I try not to think about it too much I had only told dh up to now , I have autism and every so often I wonder was it a combination of that /sleep paralysis/sleepwalking but I never had anything like that ever happen again it was a one off incident but still makes me feel cold sweaty and sick to recall it

Our ring alarm went off afew night ago as there was motion detected on the downstairs sensors. My husband went down to check and nobody was there, but the lights on the tree were switched on…. DH very anal about switching everything off and we both remember it being off before bed. I like to think it was my mum popping in for a Christmas visit.

HP89 · 21/12/2023 23:49

… or perhaps electrical faults 🫢 but I enjoy Abit of woo so I’ll stick with woo!

I think that’s quite lovely with the tree lights being put on 🎄

Me too 🤗 we had similar with our wedding decorations. We came in one day and the lights in our sweetheart table centre piece were on ❤️ logical DH thinks it’s cheap lights and dodgy batteries!

I saw ghosts on Christmas Day night last year. It was one of those funny but sad things and heart-warming at the same time.

I think @StBrides is referencing Dickens ‘a Christmas Carol’. 🤣

@LuluBlakey1 who did you see / what did they look like?

I will be waiting to see them this Christmas Day night too- but it will be the last time they appear.

They were a mixed bunch. One looked like a caveman, one was a smoking woman from the 16th century, one was early 1700s, one early 1800s, an Edwardian Fanny, an army captain from the second world war, a scoutmaster from 1970s and a man with no trousers from 1980s and a group of plague victims.

I'm rewatching at the moment. I can recommend the US version as well.

I'm fairly sure there will be a new baby.
