If I get it frozen on Saturday, do I need to defrost it in the fridge for two days until I cook it Monday afternoon ? Or should I put it in the freezer and take it out Sunday afternoon ?

What weight is it? 24 hours defrosting time per 2kg if that helps.

crankit · 21/12/2023 16:10

I have no idea lol it's coming from a farm, then being frozen until being picked up on Saturday morning

They can take a while to defrost and while it's not dangerous to cook partially frozen meat you would have to make sure it's piping hot and cooked right through. Much better to start defrosting one day early than one day late, especially if it's defrosting in the fridge which will slow it down.

I’d put in the fridge straight away. I find that, especially with a full fridge, it takes a long time to thoroughly defrost something.

Confused - a fresh turkey is being picked up on Saturday to be eaten on Monday? If that is the case then don't freeze it at all.

idontlikealdi · 21/12/2023 16:28

Why is being frozen at all?

crankit · 21/12/2023 17:07

Sorry I mean it's going to already be frozen, so I didn't know if I had to start defrosting on the Saturday or the Sunday

Are you sure, farms usually sell fresh turkeys this week?

Whataretheodds · 21/12/2023 17:10

If you've ordered it you must have a vague idea of its size?

crankit · 21/12/2023 17:15

No I haven't ordered it my mum has, my first time doing a turkey hence the flapping
Every year her partner gets a turkey from his boss, they don't know whether it's going to be frozen or fresh. All I know is he gets it from the same butchers each year (just been told)

crankit · 21/12/2023 17:15

Don't know if his boss collects them and then freezes them

I just don't want to make anyone sick

I would say wait until you know what you've got before deciding what to do. It will be fine!

Mammyloveswine · 21/12/2023 17:21

Ask your mam if it's normally fresh or frozen? If frozen defrost sat/sun

Cookerhood · 21/12/2023 18:37

It'll be fine, just put it in the fridge when you get it. It won't go off by Monday!
