iPhone question

I feel like I should know this but I don't.

Is there a way of keeping photos on your phone in a separate folder so they don't appear on your main scroll of photos?

Thanks in advance

Yes create albums...

Go to photos, then to albums. Press the plus sign to create and name a new album.

Go back to original photo and on top right are three dots, it brings up a menu which includes 'add to album'. Voila!

Pozz · 21/12/2023 09:45

Although saying that, I'm not 100% sure whether if you delete from main scroll whether it deletes in albums as well 🤔 I have a feeling it might. Which wouldn't help you..

Maybe someone else will come along with more expertise! 🙃

Adding to an album doesn't remove them from the camera roll.

However, if you click the triple-dots button and do "Hide", then it will be added to an album called "Hidden" which can only be accessed with the iPhone passcode.

There’s a hidden folder option (where I have all my wrinkle and open pore progression photographs but others may have more “intimate” pictures 😀) but I’m not sure if you can have albums within that folder if that was what you wanted to do?

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2023 10:01

Put things in albums and then choose the album icon at the bottom so that's your default view instead of 'library' showing 'all'.
Afaik the photos are all still there if you choose to show the 'main scroll'.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure these actually do what I'd like to do. I basically have tonnes of pictures of clothes for Vinted on my phone but I don't want them clogging up my main scroll as it's very irritating. I want them in a separate album which I can access when I need to relist them! Thanks for the help though everyone!

I don’t think it is possible, I tried to do this in the run up to our wedding to hide photos of my dress from DH. It’s very annoying, you would think it would be a useful feature.

Can you use WhatsApp to send the photos to yourself then remove them from iPhone photos?

tommika · 22/12/2023 10:12

The iPhones main library covers all photos. If you copy to an album and delete then you delete fully and lose the album copy as well
(Albums are just another tag on the photo)

Default ‘albums’ that the iPhone creates and places each photo are:

Library - your whole photo stream, including downloaded images
Places - geotagging of where you took your photos
People & pets - facial recognition based albums (these can also cross reference for group photos)
Dimensions - groups of images by width and/height

You can create a vinted album and add as you take them, but that needs you to do the effort each time and you can’t delete them from the main photo stream - it would make them easy to get back to though and you can direct Vinted to an album

The only way to organise and delete from the main stream is to use an alternative app, take the photos, add to the app and delete (which may be an option offered by the app as you load them), but you would most likely need to save them out of the app again to relist

Emailing to yourself or cloud services would pretty much be the same - send it, delete, but have to save back to a gallery etc to reuse

All pictures show up in the main camera roll regardless of whether they’re in photo albums. I don’t think it’s possible no. Unless you keep all the Vinted pics in DropBox or something similar

Pingu135 · 22/12/2023 10:21

I wanted to be able to do this too. I got the Photo Manager app and use that. You then delete the photos from the iPhone app, but you can copy it back there if required

BoobyDazzler · 22/12/2023 10:24

Yes you can hide photos so they appear in a separate folder that has to be accessed with your face and doesn’t show on linked devices.

Click the 3 dots at the top and click hide. Then when you want to view them your hidden folder is in albums.

It's always recommended to keep your photos organized on your iPhone, and fortunately, there are many ways to do that. You can create a separate folder and move photos into it so they don't clutter your main photo scroll, for a start.
Also, here's an article for a step-by-step guide on how to access hidden photos on your iPhone: https://applevox.com/how-to-access-hidden-photos-on-iphone/. This method allows you to keep certain photos out of sight until you want to view them.
By following these steps and others you can find, your main photo gallery can remain uncluttered and easy to navigate while still having all your photos organized the way you want.
