Anyone know Hebden Bridge and M6 roads?

Name changed as outing for both. My DS has recently driven up to Hebden Bridge from the south. He’s not got much driving experience but said all was fine when he got there (nearly 5 hours drive).
He’s now got to do another long journey to Scotland for Christmas which he thinks will be long on his own.
DH and myself are travelling up on Christmas Eve and could meet him. I can then jump in with him to share the drive.
Does anyone know the easiest route out of Hebden with least dangerous roads and roundabouts to put him near the M6 please? I’ve put it into route master etc but obviously local knowledge is more helpful.
He was also thinking about driving himself earlier Friday or Saturday. Any thoughts on traffic on either those days if he leaves early morning?

Not super local but I would have thought he’s best going via Todmorden (A646) to get onto the M65 to then get onto the M6

I would head towards Todmorden then to burnley (m65) then m6 junction 29 would were you could meet.

Fridays are normally hell on the roads, I would do really early Saturday.

I would go to Todmorden then to the M65 at Burnley and across to the M6. It’s pretty much the road along the valley to Todmorden and will be well signed to Burnley from there.
It’s blowing a gale up in Yorkshire at the moment so he needs to take it easy on the high routes, the M6 in particular gets very high and the lorries need to be avoided.

Route 1 - head towards Sowerby Bridge and then Rishworth/Saddleworth and pick up the M62 at Jc22. Head West and meet the M6 at Birchwood. There are services near Birchwood.

Route 2 - head towards Burnley on the A646 and pick up the M65 and head west to meet the M6 at Bamber Bridge.

I think the second is probably shorter but might depend on the weather conditions.

I agree that the Todmorden/M65/M6 route looks best and will be well signposted. Google maps gives a couple of alternative options but they will both be partly over narrow moorland roads, that will be pitch dark between 4 pm and 8 am, or even less daylight if weather is bad.

Can't comment on roundabouts as these can't be avoided and obviously if he can't negotiate an unfamiliar roundabout safely he shouldn't be driving at all.

Also need to check traffic on the day as scope for accidents, delays etc. I think Friday and Saturday will be worst for traffic as a lot of people will be travelling on those days - I've read that Saturday will be especially bad, so it might be that early on Christmas Eve might be better as most people who are travelling will have already done it and then concentrating on last minute grocery shopping and food prep.

He’s a good driver actually. He even passed his test in both an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar car. So yes he can navigate unfamiliar roundabouts. I drive a lot and there’s a massive difference in speed and driving skills needed between different roundabouts..

Thank you to those that have offered routes. Todmorden appears to be the winner then.
