Any help identify the source of this kidney area pain? Gp is at a loss

I've had a growing pain over the last couple of months. I thought it was kidney pain, I've not had it before but it seemed to be in that area, and I had started taking a statin that can in rare cases cause kidney pain. So I stopped taking it and went to my GP.

They've done a scan of my kidneys, and took blood and urine samples and nothing was flagged up. She asked me what I wanted next, but I don't have a clue so I'm googling and asking around now.

The pain has gone from being intermittent and not daily to being constant daily, mostly in a sitting position or when leaning forward as when gettig up, and is best when I'm lying down, and it doesn't wake me in the night. It doesn't seem to be muscular, and it responds well to paracetamol which I now take about 3 times a day to manage it.

I wondered if it could be post cholecystectomy syndrome as I had my gallbladder out about a month before the pain started, but she wasn't familiar with this and said she didn't know and would ask a colleague and get back to me. The pain can be so sharp for brief moments that it takes my breath away or I feel like I could pass out. I don't know what else to ask for so this is just a random reach out to see if anyone else has had any experience of this and might know what it is.

Have you had your gallbladder checked?

MummySS22 · 20/12/2023 15:57

I have gallstones and it can sometimes feel like it's kidney pain especially if it's on your right side.

MummySS22 · 20/12/2023 15:58

Sorry just seen you had your gallbladder out, I didn't see that part x

Where exactly is the pain?

scaredofff · 20/12/2023 16:00

Is it bottom left of your stomach?
Could it be constipation?

dudsville · 20/12/2023 16:16

Thanks everyone, it mostly feels like it's in the kidney area, but occasionally it is also up where the gallbladder was, hence my wondering if it could be the pcs. But also I have heard that pain can shoot around the body, so i just feel at a loss. When it feels like kidney pain it is definitely deep inside, inside the lower back ribcage as opposed to muscular.

I'm not constipated either.

Inside the lower back rib cage could be muscular (I know you’re saying it doesn’t feel muscular but it still could potentially be).
Do you have painful periods and could it be a patch of endometriosis?

Kidney stones? It took months to get a diagnosis as mine were very small so hard to detect, but they moved a lot which caused the pain.

Thanks@LapinR0se , you're right, and I keep meaning to say that of course I don't know, I wish I knew more about what was in my body and its location! @CharlotteSometimes1 , thanks I've forgotten about that possibility, certainly nothing came up on the sonnogram though. In the meantime my gp phoned me back, had spoken with a colleague, and they're sending me for further tests so, joy! I no longer feel like i have to try to find the answer myself now. It was just so deflating when she said she didn't know and asked me what I wanted so i posted here. Thanks all for pitching in with ideas, much appreciated!
