It's pissing down and blowing a hoolie and I don't care.

Sitting in a cottage on the west coast of Scotland. Weather is dramatic and wonderful, fire is on and I can't remember the last time I felt this content. It's been a tough year for lots of reasons and I felt many times that there would be no light at the end of the tunnel. I have two days on my own to do what I like and I feel like I'm in my happy place, feelung some kind of peace, which I didn't think I would again.

I'd love to know what brings you peace.

I love this and can definitely relate. Enjoy!

TopicalNameChange · 20/12/2023 11:39

Sounds beautiful. Hope you get a few good walks in, some nice books (if that's your thing) and food that nourishes you.

My peace would look very much like what you have now, enjoy it

I feel a bit like you. My house is right by the sea and I can look out at the wild waves and be all nice and warm inside.
I love to take the dog a walk along the beach on a day like this and then reward myself with a coffee and cake at the nearby hotel which also does doggy treats.

Diplidocus4 · 20/12/2023 11:47

Living by the coast , walking the dogs and occasionally helping with litter picking!
Beach's and waves are just amazing.

EveryKneeShallBow · 20/12/2023 11:49

Just back from a break near Aviemore. Lovely big warm fires and cosy throws. Only disappointed by there being no snow, this time last year we had a couple of inches each day.

Wishimaywishimight · 20/12/2023 11:52

Sounds like utter bliss - enjoy!

Dutch1e · 20/12/2023 13:19

What a lovely thread! I'm so pleased for you and your feeling of cosy contentment.

I love this time of year for its slow gentle days and quite fiercely guard against overcommitting my time. Being so protective of stress-free Christmases brings me a lot of peace.

AngelsandAliens · 20/12/2023 13:21

That sounds so lovely 🥰 ….. enjoy . My peace would be something similar to that , I’m exhausted 😩 x

JenJenJenJenJenJen · 20/12/2023 13:21

While I’m, sadly, not on the lovely west coast of Scotland or anywhere near the coast, I am off work today and sitting in front of a lovely fire with my husband watching Christmas movies. It’s grey and rainy out, but we’re all warm and happy.

I love peace.

margotrose · 20/12/2023 13:22

I'm on the Cumbrian coast and we have similar weather here. My kitten is curled up at my feet, the Christmas lights are up and I'm tucked up under a blanket watching TV with a coffee - it's also very peaceful!

wobblyweasel · 20/12/2023 13:24

That sounds absolutely perfect! Relax and enjoy. I'd love to be in a tiny cottage, roaring fire, lots of lovely food to hand, no one else for miles. With just my dog and books for company x

Xmasisoffsantahascovid · 20/12/2023 13:26

The west coast of Scotland is Heaven to me op.. Went 4 times this year. Never felt so at peace and at home.

Very envious op!!

BigDahliaFan · 20/12/2023 13:28

Sounds perfect.

We have unexpected guests for Christmas staying due to bad weather, so I've been very encouraging of them going out for dinner while I have a quiet night in on my own tonight....with the fire, the cat and a Bailey's.

KeepSmiling89 · 20/12/2023 13:29

Ahh, sounds like heaven!
I get peace on a Friday/Saturday night when 2 year old DD is fast asleep, I've just had a bath/shower, got a glass of wine, watching something good on TV and pausing now and again to hear the rain pouring down and/or wing blowing a hoolie knowing I'm snug and cosy inside :)

AdoraBell · 20/12/2023 13:34

Sounds utterly wonderful OP

For me it would be either ocean 🌊 or mountains 🏔️ .

Hope you enjoy you time there.

Colinswheels · 20/12/2023 13:38

I live on the West Coast of Scotland and I agree that being inside and cosy while the wind and rain are battering against the window is fabulous as long as you don't have to go anywhere! Bonus points for a fire and a book you can't put down. Hope you have a relaxing break OP.

Deathbyfluffy · 20/12/2023 13:41

That sounds wonderful.
Having a peaceful afternoon / evening with my wife is the best kind of day - a lot of our friends are quite 'go go go' whereas we enjoy taking a step back.

TheLocust · 20/12/2023 13:48

I live on the west coast of Scotland as well. Wet, wild and windy here for the last few days. Currently eating my lunch and watching the waves crashing against the rocks. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

cleanasawhistle · 20/12/2023 14:06

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 20/12/2023 14:16

BombaySamphire · 20/12/2023 14:17

That sounds like utter bliss, op.
Enjoy 😊

Ihateboris · 20/12/2023 14:22
