Any Android/Google or general tech experts who can advise me here? My old smartphone stopped charging and was still under guarantee, so they sent it away for repairs. It was fully backed up, and last time I got a new phone everything got transferred, as though it was the same phone. So I wasn't worried when they sent me a replacement. But I messed up when I was setting it up, as the internet was playing up, and I had to start setting it up offline, and so the password wasn't automatic and I changed it. That caused chaos! It got set up without everything, and I innocently pressed backup, thinking it would help. I later discovered that overrode the earlier backup on my old phone. So nearly four years of text messages gone. Also most apps. I'm so upset, as I'd taken care to backup, but lost the backup. My photos were stored on Google Photos, so I've got them on my tablet, so that's a big relief. But some really sentimental text chats gone. I can get most WhatsApp messages, except the last few days, as it was only backed up to December 10th for some reason.
The most upsetting part is that I now reckon I had several hours to factory reset and retrieve it, as it kept saying I had three devices, and the old one was still registered. Now it doesn't. So I think I've lost that chance. I didn't realise that at the time. This all happened yesterday. Is there anything I can do to get all that stuff back? Anyone done similar?
