Mauritius for a holiday?

Has anyone been to Mauritius? It's somewhere my dad would love to go.

If so, any recommendations for best time of year to go, places to stay/avoid etc?

From memory, I think one side of the island is windy so you want the non-windy side.

We stayed at Sugar Beach and it was absolutely gorgeous.
