Weird thing just happened as I stood up

I was sitting down watching a funny video on my phone with DH. Got up, went upstairs and laid down on the bed and all of a sudden my nose started running. One nostril and it was literally like water - never had anything like it.

I don’t have a cold (had one a few weeks ago and now been without symptoms for days).

It stopped after about 5-10 seconds but it was the weirdest sensation of literally water coming from one side of my nose. I have googled it and google is saying to seek medical attention as this can be what cerebral fluid leakage can feel like!

What would you do?

I get this. It’s become more frequent as I’ve gotten older too! Always the Left nostril for some reason. I don’t go anywhere without a tissue in my pocket.

I get this sometimes too, always takes me by surprise!

Boozybadger · 19/12/2023 22:21

I can’t believe how many people are encouraging you to call 111, because your nose ran for 5 seconds! It is honestly no wonder the NHS is struggling.

A change of pressure from moving around, lying down or bending over will have likely caused it. Unless it was constant or other symptoms, I wouldn’t waste a GPs time either

I get this occasionally but i suffer with my sinuses

rainbowbee · 19/12/2023 22:24

I only had it once, thankfully standing in front of my kitchen sink! It was some kind of sinus release; I could feel it around nose and cheekbones. Never happened again. So weird though x

I’ve had a CSF leak like the link, I couldn’t even sit up in bed for the extreme headache, let alone type! I’m not a medic, but i’d bet my house you’re not having a CSF leak, my nose
didnt run either.

This happened to me once on a long haul flight. I was freaking out. The liquid mostly running down the back of my throat but it was clear and there was a lot of it. I spoke to a medical friend after I landed (hours later) and she wasn’t concerned. I later worked out it was my sinuses clearing themselves, I’d had a bad cold a week before and had had blocked ears and nose etc with that.

MsTwaffles · 19/12/2023 22:30

You had a cold a few weeks ago so most likely your sinuses clearing themselves out. I get this when a bad cold/bunged nose starts to clear and can be embaressing but just need a tissue at hand at all times

This happened to my son last night both sides he told me about it this morning.
He went to work as normal no probs not happened again yet.
He said hes been fine dont feel unwell.
Just a really runny nose strange.

Flyhigher · 20/12/2023 03:27

I've had allergies from one nostril.

I had similar years ago except the fluid that started pouring was bright yellow like the colour of a highlighter pen and it ran all over my top uncontrollably! I was on holiday and completely freaked out, like you I googled and thought it was a brain leak. I phoned 111 and they couldn't have cared less! Never happened since and it was about 10 years ago. I was also just over a cold.

I've had the exact same thing, about three times, but it hasn't happened for a few years.
It was yellow highlighter pen colour and thin like water. Starting pouring out suddenly went I bent down and then stopped. Really weird!!
