Vinted Scam- any advice?

Sold a mulberry purse, brilliant condition and I came down £50 because I need the money for Christmas.
It had been kept in its box, covers, tags everything but I packaged it so carefully inside another box and then inside a shipping bag so that even the mulberry box would be in good condition for them.
He’s received the package and now asked Vinted for his money back- claiming that I sent some cheap sandals instead. For those who don’t know, Vinted keep the money until the buyer says they have received goods. So he’s probably going to get his money back and I know he also has the purse.
the image below shows the shipping bag I sent the purse in, so I know he got the purse. I’ve never seen the sandals in my life and I know 100% that I sent the purse.
vinted have asked for proof that I sent the correct item- photos of it in its packaging etc
But I never took any, it never crossed my mind 😞
Im so angry, about the money (which is needed) but also that someone has tricked me so easily and it looks like they will get away with it as they have pictures and I don’t.

Anyone had this happen and had a successful outcome? Just wanted a bit of advice before I message Vinted with my defence

I know there was no package mix up as they’ve sent a few pictures of my packaging and label. They’ve opened my package, taken the purse out and pretended I sent some worthless sandals. So Inpost cctv etc probably won’t be a help as they are not disputing receiving the package.

Vinted has given me two options- give the seller a refund or ask the seller to return the item and get a refund- in which case they will get their money back, get to keep the purse and I’ll get someone’s dirty old sandals in the post.

I’ll contact Inpost today to see if there are any pics of package being delivered, which might show the shape of the box inside. And I’ll ask if it was weighed as the package I sent will have weighed more than sandals.

I think I’ve got to accept though that I’ve probably just been scammed 🙁

thank for all of the help though everyone

Regardless if the package has ur label on there. When inpost process items at their warehouse, there is normally an inpost sticker on there from inpost. Get the buyer to send you the whole picture of the package.

Poor you. The scammy twat. It seems he has form looking at reviews. I would be pointing that out to Vinted. And report him via the block button?

@Walker111

I've had the same, only the other way round, bought a jacket, it turned up damaged so I asked to send it back for a refund. The seller started accusing me of scamming, claimed it was a different jacket then that I had wrecked it, I can't understand why anyone would do that as a scam though! She became quite abusive so Vinted gave me a refund and told me to keep the jacket (was only good for the bin). The damage was not visible in the listing photos, so could have been cleverly hidden but I wonder if it might have been swapped as another pp suggested.

What a nightmare all round, I've had a couple like this on Vinted now, it has really put me off. You have my sympathy

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz I had a buyer "buy" a fairly expensive bag of mine and they had no reviews. I just cancelled the transaction and said to the buyer I wasn't prepared to send an expensive item to a new buyer with no feedback. They were annoyed which is fair but I don't care.

Which company did you use to send it?

Vinted are known to have problems with InPost lockers - as they go in label-less the couriers out the wrong address label on the wrong parcel

They don’t go in unlabelled. You have to label it then scan it

Yes they do go in labeless if you go digital. You can opt to print a label. If you go labeless, you put the parcel in with no address label and shut the door. I post sort labelling on collection.

Ugh I haven’t seen it like that for InPost before. Sounds very dodgy! At least with Evri and yodel it’s printed in front of you!

Your transaction should be in your inbox?

shearwater2 · 20/12/2023 12:49

I don't think it's clear whether it is a scam or if the courier has stolen it.

Ahhh that's a good idea I'll bear that in mind, thanks.

I've had this happen on eBay. It's so incredibly frustrating. I don't know if inpost take delivery photos. I'd give them a call because if they have it would be very obvious from the size and shape of the parcel if there is a small box or a pair of sandals inside. Their phone number is 0330 335 0950, I've found them pretty responsive when I've called before.
