Asthma

I think I've got asthma but I'm not sure.

I seen the doctor last week and she said I've a chest infection. I've had them previously but this time, I had tightening & pressure in my chest which I told her and she did ask me if I had asthma. I've never had it, not as a child or an adult. She gave me an inhaler.

Tonight I had a coughing fit for about 20 minutes. I genuinely couldn't stop, I felt so out of breath and the tight feeling was there again. I'm wheezing also when I breathe. I had the inhaler and it has eased.

So is this a chest infection or asthma!? How do you differentiate?

Sorry you’re feeling poorly @redcar28 . If it’s just of a short duration no one can tell. Take the meds as prescribed and keep an eye on it, if it doesn’t improve as the infection clears they may look at an asthma diagnosis. Maybe get a peak flow meter and start to get an idea of your usual readings
