So here’s the deal: my husband and I are heading to the Scottish western Isles to spend Christmas for nearly a week. Before that we’ll be in a bigger city and I plan to raid the Waitrose because there isn’t one in my small town. We’ve already ordered our main Christmas shoulder of lamb from a local store on the island but I want to also take some fun and delicious foods with us over on the ferry. We’re going as foot passengers so won’t have a car but we will take a cool bag with us.
Here’s what we’re buying from the island store: rolled shoulder of lamb; chipolatas and bacon to make pigs in blankets; a whole chicken; back bacon; full fat milk; double thick cream; and a loaf of sourdough bread.
What are folks seeing that’s good at either Waitrose or Cook? Foods I’m interested in:
- Desserts. OH wants a trifle or yule log, something traditional. I’m feeling cheesecake.
- Spice rub packets for the lamb and a chicken we’ll roast during our stay
- Any other cook’s ingredients that seem fun
- Any nice sides or ready meals people have tried lately? I’m feeling a creamed spinach or an eggplant parmigiana from Cook?
- Dips, special holiday foods, etc?
- Cheeeeeeeese!!
- Crackers and snacks
- Pastries / breads. I’m thinking of frozen croissants
And yes, it will only be the two of us
. Tell me your delicious favourites, please!
