What’s tasty for Christmas at Waitrose and Cook right now?

So here’s the deal: my husband and I are heading to the Scottish western Isles to spend Christmas for nearly a week. Before that we’ll be in a bigger city and I plan to raid the Waitrose because there isn’t one in my small town. We’ve already ordered our main Christmas shoulder of lamb from a local store on the island but I want to also take some fun and delicious foods with us over on the ferry. We’re going as foot passengers so won’t have a car but we will take a cool bag with us.

Here’s what we’re buying from the island store: rolled shoulder of lamb; chipolatas and bacon to make pigs in blankets; a whole chicken; back bacon; full fat milk; double thick cream; and a loaf of sourdough bread.

What are folks seeing that’s good at either Waitrose or Cook? Foods I’m interested in:

  • Desserts. OH wants a trifle or yule log, something traditional. I’m feeling cheesecake.
  • Spice rub packets for the lamb and a chicken we’ll roast during our stay
  • Any other cook’s ingredients that seem fun
  • Any nice sides or ready meals people have tried lately? I’m feeling a creamed spinach or an eggplant parmigiana from Cook?
  • Dips, special holiday foods, etc?
  • Cheeeeeeeese!!
  • Crackers and snacks
  • Pastries / breads. I’m thinking of frozen croissants

And yes, it will only be the two of us Grin. Tell me your delicious favourites, please!

Also he intends to make soup while there so any good dry soup mixes you’ve tried would be good too.

I can’t edit my post for some strange reason.

The COOK sausage meat stuffing balls wrapped in bacon and their potato dauphinoise are both excellent.

The Waitrose frozen croissants are really nice, we often have them at weekends.

Their brown sugar mince pies are nice too.

@MissyB1 I just realized I don’t think we have a freezer at the Airbnb we’ve rented. Or maybe it’s just an ice box. I think I’ll get the off the shelf croissants and pains au chocolat.
