Anyway to get a cheaper Costa Coffee?

lamppost123 · 18/12/2023 17:26

Retired parents and a new Costa coffee shop has opened near them.

Obviously coffee is a bit of a luxury, so I was wondering if there are any ways to get a membership type card for limited/unlimited drinks?

Pret do a card for £30 per month.

I've had a search of Costa and I can't find anything, but thought I would check here as well.

The walk to Costa would be good and they like coffee.

You can buy a gift card

BrightLightTonight · 18/12/2023 17:27

Costa do gift cards

ectoone · 18/12/2023 17:28

No but if they get the app and use their own cups they will get 2 'beans' towards a free coffee. It's a bit crap you need 10 beans to get a free coffee now.

Oh I misread what you meant in the OP.

Yeah, a gift card!

Xmasisoffsantahascovid · 18/12/2023 17:29

Sometimes they offer a £25 gift card for £20...get the app to collect beans and earn free coffee of any size. Also adding date of birth to the app gives you a free cake and reward offers.. Cake for a pound for example!!

BoohooWoohoo · 18/12/2023 17:31

Some mobile phone operator perks include a free coffee. Eg Vodafone Veryme

There’s a monthly treat drop in the app too. Last one I got was 2 drinks for £6

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 18/12/2023 17:36

Use the Costa App like me and get 1 + 5 bonus beans when you buy a handcrafted drink. That’s 6 beans closer to your free one. Sip, earn, and enjoy! https://swf3j.app.goo.gl/qaMTW

If you sign up for the app with a friend code we both get 5 free beans. Mines is INIBB halfway to a free coffee! Costs don’t do an unlimited card like pret though.

Buy a gift card through the Jam Doughnut app and get cashback. Also use their loyalty scheme. Take a mug with you.

lamppost123 · 18/12/2023 18:14

Oh great shout on the bring your own container! Defo worthwhile for them as mum already uses the app.

I could buy a gift card but was thinking something more long term.

@lamppost123 my dh was queueing in Costa recently and the woman in front asked for a large coffee and two cups, which works out cheaper than two small coffees. He did say the barista looked disgruntled though, so it depends on how brazen your parents are. 🙂

crummi · 18/12/2023 18:24

Also, tea is cheaper than coffee.

A large isn't the same as 2 smalls though.

Also utterly miserable.

I don't like Costa coffee but I remember the last time I was in there and asked for a small coffee. It was huge. It really put me off. I think that's a great idea asking for two cups.

ectoone · 18/12/2023 18:34

If they do ask for a large with 2 cups make sure they can actually lift the bucket like large cups after to pour it. They are heavy and cumbersome things with 2 handles. Less than ideal

lamppost123 · 18/12/2023 19:38

The uk chain shops servings are too big in my opinion. Much smaller servings in independent shops and overseas which suits me. However parents are quantity and probably wouldn't share. Dad would be ok with black coffee and normal milk. Mum like the cafe latte.

Get a Costa card and bring your own cups. You get 2 beans per reusable cup. 10 beans and you get a reward drink

Allthescreens · 18/12/2023 20:27

Might be worth checking if your work has a rewards scheme which offers discounts. Mine (county council) does & is currently offering 13% off Costa.

FlowerBarrow · 18/12/2023 20:34

There’s the 5 of your own cups gets a free drink so that’s approx 60p-70p off per drink. On top of this there’s regularly £5 off a £25 gift card. So that’s another 60p per drink. I know it doesn’t sound loads but if it brings the overall price of every drink down from £3.50 to £2.30 I think it’s a good deal.

zack411 · 15/07/2024 20:47

You check the prices and gift card info on that website : https://costaprices.co.uk/ which is written in detail and yes gift card will save you a lot of money.😊

ece123 · 06/11/2025 18:55

Here is a referral code that will give you extra points (5 beans).

Yes bring your own cup and you get 2 stamps per drink so you buy 5 drinks and get one free.

Plus they run a gift card offer about 4 times a year where they add 25% to the value you pay eg spend £40 get £50.

So say a coffee costs £3.50, and you use both these offers, you’d get 14 drinks plus 2 (nearly 3) free drinks for £40. So approx £2.35 each.
