I'm making a cheese board for boxing day. So far I have boursin and a nice mature cheddar. What would you choose?

Tete de moine
Wensleydale cranberry

MiddleagedBeachbum · 18/12/2023 14:04

Oxford blue
Brie
goats cheese
smoked cheese
Stilton
lots of chutney, biscuits, apples and grapes

StiggyZardust · 18/12/2023 14:04

Stilton or a similar strong blue cheese.
A soft brie or camembert.
I like a piece of Comte.
Not keen on anything with bits in or added flavours.

Hebridean Stilton (tasted it for the first time on Sat - absolutely delicious)
Perl Las
Epoisses
Snowdon Black Bomber cheddar
And all the other cheese

BigBouncyBaubles · 18/12/2023 14:05

I'd add in some manchego, some ossau-iraty, and a brie.

kimchio · 18/12/2023 14:05

I was thinking a brie. Is Somerset brie any good?

OP posts:
kimchio · 18/12/2023 14:06

Oh yes it needs a blue of some sort

murasaki · 18/12/2023 14:06

Port salut
Brie
Comte
Gorgonzola or roquefort

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 18/12/2023 14:09

Comte
Wensleydale with cranberries. I could eat a whole one of these.
Port Salut
Brie
A blue one

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 18/12/2023 14:09

For the love of God, please stop with the list of cheeses. I want them all. Now.

Oh dear, I’m already heading to the fridge for some Stilton in a cheese compulsion trance.

cleanasawhistle · 18/12/2023 14:10

Wensleydale Apricot

kimchio · 18/12/2023 14:11

Oh and I've got Branston and red onion chutney do you think that's sufficient?

dreamingbohemian · 18/12/2023 14:12

A basic template for a cheeseboard would be a goat's cheese, a soft cheese (like Brie), a hard cheese and a blue cheese. Obviously you can adapt as you like! Add a stinky cheese if you like that sort of thing.

Personally I think cheddar is a little boring for a cheese board, agree with PP on Comte, Ossau-Iraty or Manchego.

Lots of gorgeous British and Irish goat's cheeses around

Be sure to take your cheeses out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before serving as they will taste better

yes and get some grapes too

murasaki · 18/12/2023 14:12

Definitely room temperature cheese.

plusjamais · 18/12/2023 14:13

A nice stinky, gooey camembert.

Somerset brie can be pretty nice, but it's very mild.

TheShellBeach · 18/12/2023 14:13

Leerdammer

kimchio · 18/12/2023 14:14

@dreamingbohemian thanks this is helpful. I'll get a goats cheese. I know what you mean about cheddar but I have some lovely mature cheddar from cheddar to eat

Even for the gooey cheese?

TerrysChocolateOrange · 18/12/2023 14:14

Well there is a gorgeous one that I could tell you about, but then I would have to shoot you, 😂but the others are not closely guarded secrets, so in no particular order.

Epoisses
Cashel Blue
Cooleny
Tunworth
Gubeen
Cropwell Bishop
Manchego
Comte
Gorgonzola Dolce

With some fig confit and quince.

Crackers and toasted ciabatta with Kerrygold butter.

murasaki · 18/12/2023 14:14

I like fruit WITH my cheese, but not in it. Can't be doing with the ruining of a nice Wendsleydale

idontlikealdi · 18/12/2023 14:15

Cornish cruncher

dreamingbohemian · 18/12/2023 14:15

Oh in that case cheddar will be lovely : )

I agree Somerset brie is very mild but some people don't like strong cheeses

kimchio · 18/12/2023 14:14

Especially for the gooey cheese! It will be even gooier!
