Radiators not drains

Anyone resolved to surround themselves with radiators and not drains in the new year? People who bring you joy, not people who drain you.

I am not sure I will entirely manage it, but will try.

I’ve already pretty much done it. When my mum died I decided there’s no room in my life for drains any more.

Yes, I have had a exhausting few years- probably most people have had the same- and now I want to surround myself with happy, cheery, smiley people. I don't mean toxic positivity, just people who don't endlessly bring you down.

We had a motivational speaker talk about this a few weeks ago

Otherwise I'd have no clue what you are on about!

Unfortunately my life is full of drains and I can't change that

That way you only have friends who feel they have to be "up" all the time.

I'd rather see them whatever is going on in their lives. My closest friend has a life limiting illness yep she drains me... but I don't mind because shit happens. What if your radiators fail to keep up their side?

I suppose some caveats need to be added to make this work. I would be there for a friend with illness, or who was bereaved, or who had lost his/her job... big stuff like that.

I just mean I can no longer be bothered with constant negativity. Also people who make me feel bad, like boasters, bores, and so on...
