Dumb question - outdoor lights

How do you plug them in if you don't have an outside socket? Any tips?? We're the only ones in our row without any and feeling the pressure 😁

Ours is fed in through a front window and plugs in indoors. The wires are very thin so the window still closes OK.

Ah okay - thanks! I was considering the window and whether it was sensible to shut the wire in. I think it will shut okay. Will explore further, thank you 😊

We have some that are outdoor battery operated that are on a timer 6 hours on 18 hours off! We had the same issue.

Same as @dementedpixie - Most wires should fit through. My windows are a very tight fit and no probs.

Thanks for starting this thread @TheTshirtisgot I have been thinking the same as you. All my neighbours have lights outside and I would like to join in this year Grin

Will have a look on Amazon for lights.

dementedpixie · 17/12/2023 14:39

We only have icicles outside. We have light up silhouettes in the windows downstairs so they are indoors.

Dolphinnoises · 17/12/2023 14:39

And also - as this confused me back in the day - also search Amazon for gutter hooks, if you have traditional guttering. That’s how you fix them up easily…

BeyondMyWits · 17/12/2023 14:41

We have a number of outside lights, some with wires too thick for the windows to shut on, those get fed through the letterbox.

dementedpixie · 17/12/2023 14:42

We have gutters over our bay window and that's where we hang our icicles. Gutter hooks are very fiddly so we leave them on the icicles once they've been attached

We run an extension cable from an outside rcd-protected socket on the back wall of the house and plug them into that.

Lindy2 · 17/12/2023 14:53

We have one set on a battery timer and one set where the cable goes through the small gap at the side of our garage door and plugs in to a socket in the garage.

TheTshirtisgot · 17/12/2023 15:02

God I'm such a dunce. Worrying about shutting wires in the kitchen window and only it's just occurring to me we have our bedroom window open all year round - duh!
