That you could only watch a tv program when it was on. And there were only 3 to choose from

That there is actually more steps to laundry than loading the machine and putting it on ie taking it out hanging it up and ensuring it’s dry before you need to wear it.
I don’t do it for him..it’s the only way he’ll learn.
disclaimer : strategy not yet effective.

That to be warm in the winter you have to put the coat on and zip it up.

Washing needs to be in the basket and infront of the washing machine for it to be washed.

Spaghetti hoops everyday is not a healthy diet.

And yes the time before mobile phones and Internet and when there were only 4 channels on the TV.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 17/12/2023 14:25

That if you have an MS teams/zoom meeting/lesson/interview at 11.00, the time to start sitting at your desk and logging on is 10.50, as opposed to 11.00.

I don't have teenagers yet however I work with a few who need assistance from the local council.
The amount who cannot figure out government websites for UC, getting on the housing list, applying for grants etc. These kids have spent their whole lives in a world where the internet exists. They can do things on my phone in seconds which would take me months. Yet they can't figure out how to log into their UC journal or pay their gas bill online.
I have sympathy for most, but come on! You cannot pull the I don't know how to log into a website card when you were born in 2003!

Sunday trading! To be fair, we live in Scotland, so don’t have the same rules, but ds has been caught out when visiting family in England before.

neerg · 17/12/2023 14:56

That it is cold enough to need a coat!

Sorry to be a sourpuss but all of these teenagers seem to be remarkably pampered? Are they not told 'no' I won't take you to the cinema/wash your hoody/sort your cooking/rearrange my plans? Genuinely. How are you all running around after them like slaves?

I have teens and took this as very much lighthearted and we do say no, but it's funny to moan.

SeaToSki · 17/12/2023 15:04

That I didnt just appear into life as a Mum and their grandparents havent just always been grandparents, we actually grew up and experienced life as children, teenagers and young adults before we evolved into real adults

That you will feel so much better having to get up at 7 am on a Monday morning if you haven’t slept in until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and stayed up all night. That it’s good to get a bit of daylight and open curtains in the winter. Even some fresh air won’t actually kill you.

My Uni age daughter told me she woke up at 6.30 this morning so decided to get up so she can go to bed at a reasonable time tonight. I fear she has been taken over by aliens.

That the frying pan doesn't wash itself if you leave it in the sink.

That the toilet roll doesn't change itself.

RSintes · 18/12/2023 02:30

That the universe doesn't revolve around their personal needs and desires.

Losingtheplot2016 · 18/12/2023 06:28

God this thread is making me feel better.

That I don't like being shouted at either

That the house is actually full of food

Just f do it now and get it out of the way

I did tell them that thing actually that they just didn't listen

DilemmaDelilah · 18/12/2023 09:08
