Gossips

I'm trying to understand the mindset of this type of person. We are currently having some building work done and earlier on today, I caught her driving slowly past our home to try and see what is going on and just now she has collared DH as he got out of the car ( he had to park on the street as we have a skip on the drive). He said she didn't bother saying hello, straight away it was demanding to know what work we are having done. I struggle to understand this level of nosiness and I hate it. Why do you think people are like this? She isn't a nice character either, very judgmental and I feel, always looking to cause a bit of trouble. She has lived here since the houses were built, so nearly 40 yrs, so perhaps a sense of ownership?

Well she sounds nosy as opposed to being a gossip. Some people just like to know what’s going on.

Yes sorry should have clarified, she is very nosey, wants to know what's going on and then she will gossip about it to the rest of the street. She's got a nasty side to her, very judgmental of others. Unfortunately my dog seems to like her so when I bump into her, it's hard to get away. I hate that she talks about people and I know full well she is talking about us behind my back. It's so toxic.

Why do they need to know though? I don't care what my neighbours are up to, it's their business.

But is it actually gossip?
eg if she is saying ‘oh the people at number four are having a new kitchen and it’s costing £50k’ that might be nosy but true.
If she’s saying’oh they are having a new kitchen that cost £50k they must be drug dealers to pay for that’ I would say that’s gossip; ie putting an untrue spin on things.

I’ve always assumed it’s boredom tbh & a need to feel relevant
