Does it matter which order you watch Black mirror in?

I’m going to watch it for the first time and wondering if I can watch episodes that interest me most first or if I should watch in the order they were released?

TIA

I don't think it matters. I will say don't assume the ones you like the look of will be the best. There are some that take you by surprise I think.

Soubriquet · 16/12/2023 16:25

No. They are all individual episodes

Each is stand alone so can be watched however you like.

amylou8 · 16/12/2023 16:28

No it doesn't. The earlier ones are better I think.

icebearforpresident · 16/12/2023 17:31

They are all totally stand alone episodes but one of the newer episodes, Black Museum, calls back to a lot of the earlier episodes so if you aren’t watching them in order, which you really don’t need to, that one might not make a lot of sense.

Nosedive, USS Calister and San Junipero are some of the best episodes and are from the more recent series. Hated in the Nation, another excellent episode, predates the story about David Cameron & a certain farm animal.

ScarlettBeauregarde · 16/12/2023 17:33

Agree with above poster, the only one to avoid is black museum- watch that one after you’ve seen the others leading up to it. Otherwise can watch in any order you choose.

spottedinthewilds · 16/12/2023 17:39

Avoid the new series, I found them quite rubbish and I loved the others.

Greenbeanmcgee · 16/12/2023 18:06

Thanks all!

In the nation was oddly fascinating though.

Apart from the last season. It just looks like he's sick of doing them tbh.

bananablues · 16/12/2023 18:16

Any order. Maybe skip series 1 episode 1 (national anthem) to begin with.

white bear, hated in the nation, metalhead, loch Henry, uss callister, white Christmas, Demon 79 are all good ones. Just bear in mind there are not many happy endings.

S1 E1 is the one I was talking about that pre-dates David Cameron and the farm animal, I got mixed up. But I think it’s worth watching, and it coming true a few years later made it all the better.

Snippit · 16/12/2023 19:17

They’re all like short stories. I loved the one with Miles Cyrus, that girl is funny, 😋

ImTheGoat · 16/12/2023 19:32

I would actually skip the first 2 seasons and go straight to season 3. Season 3 is when Black Mirror went to Netflix (from Channel 4) and each episode was an hour long instead of 30 .minutes. The stories starting from season 3 are so much more developed and just better. Once you've seen seasons 3 and 4 (the best seasons) you can go back to 1 and 2 if you want to. San Junipero is my favourite episode but there are quite a few good ones.

ObliviousCoalmine · 16/12/2023 19:40

There's a good one with Andrew Scott.

National Anthem really put me off Black Mirror. I'm not normally bothered by tv stuff but I really really didn't like it.

Chipperchopper · 16/12/2023 19:46

Demon79 is brilliant, really left an impression on me. I enjoyed the Miley Cyrus one and the other one about the clone mini life/technology manager, can't remember what it was called. They don't seem to relate to each other.

Soubriquet · 16/12/2023 19:48

I loved White Bear. Such a twist

C1N1C · 16/12/2023 20:06

I slightly disagree... OK, the last season is worth a miss, but the first seasons do have a connected theme.

Yes, they are all standalone, but the eye/memory gadget is better explained in earlier episodes and developed upon later.

Letsgotitans · 16/12/2023 20:10

I agree with missing the last series, not like the other series, really didn't enjoy it.

gamerchick · 16/12/2023 20:17

The first 2 seasons are awesome.

This is the thing OP going on this thread. Nobody can tell you how to watch it. maybe just start at the beginning and you'll find your own path.

San Junipero is my favourite too. I loved that episode so much.

TuxedoJunction · 16/12/2023 21:03

San Junipero is my favourite too. It’s a masterpiece. Definitely one of the best episodes in the Black Mirror series.

LizzieBananas · 16/12/2023 21:45

You can watch each series in any order and even skip episodes but I would agree that Black Museum is meant to follow everything else (and frankly made a good final episode overall for me)

LizzieBananas · 16/12/2023 21:53

Everything up to that point, of course…

Yes, he has run out of good ideas. The first half were genius.
