Would you use a jug..

Really silly arguement perhaps-husband has a filter jug that he uses for filling up the fish tank and it was stored in a cupboard where I have seen slugs crawl on it..so he says he cleaned it up with hot water and Milton and put new filter in and its as good as new? I told him no way me or the kids are going to use anything from there (nursing and kids aged 6months to 7). He said im being unresonable and went to get a new jug with with huff on. Am I?

I wouldn't drink from it, but I doubt the fish would mind.

OurfriendsintheNE · 16/12/2023 13:22

If you take the filter out is it just a plastic jug? If it’s been washed and sterilised I can’t fathom what would be wrong with using it.

TheShellBeach · 16/12/2023 13:23

So he just uses it for the fish tank?

I don't understand, OP. He isn't asking you or the DC to drink from it.

Cheeesus · 16/12/2023 13:24

If it’s been washed, then I’d be fine with it.

StarlightLime · 16/12/2023 13:25

Why are you stressing about you and the kids when it's only being used to fill the fish tank?

Yeah one of these, I cant help it but got no desire to get a drink from it since its been used for filling fish tank and stored in a shed where I have seen big fat slimy slugs on it. I thought is it me being funny about it or would most people feel the same way invest into a new jug and keep fish/slug jug separate.

Are you meaning you won't use a sterilised jug to fill up a fish tank because a slug may have touched it at some point?

BoogityBoogityFastestThingOnTwoFeet · 16/12/2023 13:28

I’m with you. I would drink out of something that’s been in the fish tank either, regardless of how it had been cleaned afterwards.

I think you mean you wouldn't drink out of it.

Floralnomad · 16/12/2023 13:31

I wouldn’t bring anything used in from the shed / garage , clean it and use it for drinking / eating from in the house however well it had been cleaned .

TheShellBeach · 16/12/2023 13:32

I still don't get it, OP.
The fish will neither know, nor care.

tealandteal · 16/12/2023 13:37

Why would you drink from the jug anyway? Even if no slugs had been on it, it makes sense to keep one for the fish tank separate from your day to day kitchen stuff.

Pavane · 16/12/2023 13:39

But why would you and your children be drinking from a filter jug that is habitually stored in a shed, anyway?

TheShellBeach · 16/12/2023 13:48

OP I am not convinced that you've described the difficulty accurately here.

Has your husband tried to persuade you to use this jug in the kitchen now?

The same jug that he's been using for the fish tank?

If so, YANBU. I wouldn't like that either, no sirree.

Borborygmus · 16/12/2023 13:55

I don't see the problem. After all, you've probably eaten a fair bit of food over which slugs have crawled.

Ah yes, but without knowing about it.

tuttifuckinfruity · 16/12/2023 14:28

I wouldn't drink out the fish tank jug, regardless of the slugs.

Why is he now expecting you and the kids to drink out of the fish tank jug that lives in the shed?
