Who are your favourite and least favourite TV detectives?

I love Father Brown though I have to admit that he can be rather annoying at times. I also love Shakespeare and Hathaway and Poirot and really enjoyed Luther.

I’ve just started watching Vera and I can’t quite decide which category she’s going to fall into. I like the show so far but is she always so shouty and irritable?

Who are your favourite detectives?

i used to love this and the one with the ocd detective.

Fantastic series. These two are my favourite detective pair on screen.

Please have some public thanks from me for not only choosing the exact same ones for your honorable mentions but spelling Saga’s name right! Also isn’t it funny when Martin just doesn’t pronounce her name properly for the whole first series and she just scowls and gives it properly.

Love detective shows. Favourites are Marple, Poirot, Jessica Fletcher, Vera and Monk. Cracking shows.

Faves: Jessica Fletcher and also love John Nettles in MM

Least fav: Poirot (can never seem to get into the episodes for some reason) & Vera

Tosh from Shetland is my worst. I so badly want her to be good but she is so very bad. Like 80s soap level bad.

Best - so many, but Saga Noren from the Bridge and Sara Lund from the Killing have been highlights.

I also found Kenneth Branagh in the English version of Wallander unexpectedly moving.

and OMG nearly forgot Happy Valley, though it’s not a standard detective show. Every expression of Sarah Lancashire is unbearably poignant.

I’ve realised in posting this that it’s the personal failures and inner damage of the detective that gets me.

Love Jonathan Creek. Not really ever enjoyed any other detective type shows.

And in the spirit of honourable mentions for a detective-like role - Gary Oldman’s role and performance in Slow Horses is just phenomenal
