I love Father Brown though I have to admit that he can be rather annoying at times. I also love Shakespeare and Hathaway and Poirot and really enjoyed Luther.

I’ve just started watching Vera and I can’t quite decide which category she’s going to fall into. I like the show so far but is she always so shouty and irritable?

Who are your favourite detectives?

Jimmy Perez (Shetland).

YouStupidGirl · 16/12/2023 22:00

Miss marple and Jessica fletcher for sure (although neither are actually detectives 🤣)

I never warmed to that ratty faced guy off Midsomer Murders (is it John something?) supercilious twat!

WellWellSaidTheRockingChair · 16/12/2023 23:23

Oh, and I love Sarah Lancashire in happy valley

efeslight · 16/12/2023 23:30

Loved Peter ustinov as Poirot but David Suchet was fantastic too
Preferred morse to endeavour
Joan Hickson as Miss Marple but also Margaret Rutherford
Liked Colombo
Always enjoyed David Jason as the gruff Frost

MistyMountainTop · 16/12/2023 23:52

Laure Berthaud and Gilou from Spiral are my favourite pair

LaurieStrode · 16/12/2023 23:53

Suchet was born to play Poirot.

Love Sarah L. in Happy Valley.

Never been quite satisfied with any Marple.

Love the Rockford Files.

CherryJones1 · 16/12/2023 23:55

Disappointed to see Ironside doesn't get a mention!

LaurieStrode · 16/12/2023 23:56

Nathaniel Parker as DI Lynley and Sharon Small as his co-star.

Both superb in their roles. Wonder whatever became of Parker.

Diana Rigg was great as Mrs Bradley.

Disappointed to see Ironside doesn't get a mention!

Oh, love him, too!

Does anyone remember Barnaby Jones?

Viviennemary · 16/12/2023 23:59

I liked Cagney and Lacey back in the day. Taggart is my favourite. He's such a misery. Can't stand Lewis. His voice drives me mad.

GrumpyPanda · 17/12/2023 00:00

Can't stand Poirot.
Miss Cadfael - don't think they're being streamed anywhere even? Just some grainy copies on YouTube.
Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 17/12/2023 00:51

Favourites: Vera, Inspector Montalbano (both old and young versions), Jim Taggart.

Least Favourites: Frost, Rebus, Sister Boniface.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 17/12/2023 00:56

OMG I forgot the greatest female TV detective partnership of them all!

Ash and Scribs! (aka Det. Inspector Kate Ashurst and DS Emma Scribbins.)

Still missed by many of us.

Boydd · 17/12/2023 01:05

I loved dangerous

Rummikub · 17/12/2023 01:37

Love these too- Van der Valk
Cormoran Strike

And my current new favourites are Gerry Standing and Brian lane from New Tricks.

thelastrose · 17/12/2023 01:40

Vera
Miss Marple (Geraldine McEwan only)
Rose and Maloney

StaunchMomma · 17/12/2023 01:47

Saga from The Bridge.

Watched a Tasmanian cop/murder series recently that was great and one of the Detectives was delightfully batshit! So good - Deadloch, if anyone's seen it?

PaminaMozart · 17/12/2023 01:54

My all time favorites are Cagney and Lacy
Joan Hickson is the best Miss Marple

Honourable mentions:

Saga Norén
Catherine Cawood
Jane Tennison

Hmm. All women.......😎

RosieMapleLeaf · 17/12/2023 02:07

I'll age myself but ... Andy Sipowicz from NYPD Blue. Absolutely brilliant.

SinnerBoy · 17/12/2023 02:16

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 14:13

Rebus (Ken Stott, not John Hannah)

Stott was a better casting than Hannah, (nothing wrong with him as an actor, just entirely wrong as Rebus) but he still wasn't right. They needed someone like Mark McManus.

I like Vera.

NashvilleQueen · 17/12/2023 03:16

Favourite is Cassie Stewart in Unforgotten.

Love a lot of the ones mentioned above.

Don't have any particular ones I don't like as I wouldn't stick with them if I didn't like them IYSWIM
