What do you take for a head cold that actually helps??

Sudafed or cold and flu tablets help me, Aldi own brand are good.

Steam your face over a bowl of hot water.

Hope you feel better soon!

A big spoon and scoop out the inside of your face.
Or paracetamol plus a big mug of hot water, wedge of lemon and a dollop of honey. Or Sudafed type pills if you can tolerate them and you aren't breast feeding.

Sympathy from me, I've had this cold since Monday and it's literally the head cold from Hell!

Flu plus tablets with a decongestant, plus ibuprofen for the shivers. Vicks vapour rub at night. And, randomly, and antihistamine because I'm very itchy.

I'm also asthmatic, so max inhaler i can take.

This is what I had start two weeks ago. I went to bed for three days, it was most definitely a cold and not covid which I have had twice before. I sat steaming my face a lot. I also ate wasabi peas, wasabi is great for clearing sinus. Also sleeping reclined and not laying down. I have done saline nose flushing before. You must use cooled boiled water and not straight from the tap, watch a you tube video. One thing I will say as soon as it came on it also went quite quickly. I did feel mentally low for a few days afterwards though very tearful which is incredibly unlike me.

This is me now. It's a hard hitting one isn't it? Maybe because we've had covid in the past, and I rarely get ill. I'll try steaming. No one wants to be I'll over Christmas. Is it okay to
put a warm hot water bottle in your face- I mean warm- not hot- but I just think it would feel nice-
Does that help?

Will keep drinking fluids.

I think you’re referring to the cold that’s had me awake all night for the past three nights. Nothing is helping. I’m coughing so violently that I’ve nearly thrown up. I’ve “slept” sitting up as there been times I’ve struggled to breathe, and I’m not asthmatic.

Roseshavethorns · 19/12/2023 07:20

I thought I had a horrendous cold, tested negative for covid etc. Tested for covid again after 8 days (mostly because I never reached the sneezing/runny nose stage) and it was positive.
It is truly like the cold from hell and nothing like my previous covid infections.

Vicks on my chest, stuff my nose under the neckline of my jumper and take deep breaths.

Hot honey and lemonade with lemon juice added in (or a berocca tablet), drink slowly with 2 paracetamol.

Ibuprofen in between doses of paracetamol.

When I had pain from a head cold I did some googling and saw a recommendation for a warm compress on the areas that were hurting. I looked ridiculous sitting with a boiling hot rolled up towel over my face but it did the trick, just test it before you put it on your face to make sure it's not too hot.
