Hi, just to let you all know if you get one of the dreaded one4all gift cards for Christmas, you can exchange it for a voucher at lots of shops

Thanks for @PigeonPigPie for this tip about 2 years ago! My SIL is addicted to these bloody things and I can now just exchange them for lovely JL vouchers.

Flamango · 15/12/2023 23:21

I’m confused. Why do you need to? Just use the card surely? It’s t(e gift card I don’t dread receiving as it’s valid so many places.

Theimpossiblegirl · 16/12/2023 00:12

They lose value over time so don't hang onto them for too long.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 16/12/2023 00:12

Thank you! I also have an obsessed relative who always gives us these and they never seem to bloody work properly to do a split payment online! I never want exactly £10, £15 or £20 of things from anywhere!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/12/2023 00:13

They’re an absolute pain in the arse! Dh gets a substantial amount from work as a gift, I’ve had various ones as gift, but by god are they user unfriendly.

AdoraBell · 16/12/2023 00:15

Thanks OP

Ichangedmynameonce · 18/12/2023 08:06

Thank you

pickledandpuzzled · 18/12/2023 08:08

I’ve got a love2shop one which is equally irritating. I’d love £50 to spend somewhere I want to. Instead it’s shops I don’t use or heron foods!

Yes this is the issue. They seem like a good idea but the reality is you can’t use as part payment online (unlike any other gift card I’ve come across!) and you have to know how much is on there to use in store and it costs money to text and find out what the balance is. And if not used for X Period of time the balance starts to decrease.

They're ok to use in person but almost impossible to use online without swapping to a voucher because you have to spend exactly the same or less than the value on the card. Plus they lose their value if you don't start spending them in the first year (I think) whereas evouchers don't.

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 18/12/2023 08:19

Oh dear I just brought one of these for someone.
But they can use in person!!?

christmassausages · 18/12/2023 08:35

I always buy an M&S voucher with any that I get. At least that way you don't need to remember exactly how much is on it.

Namechangedforspooky · 01/02/2024 21:57

How do you swap for vouchers? I have a voucher from work for £150 but I want to swap to John Lewis and put it towards an iPad. Has anyone done it recently?

Yes you can go to JL to exchange for vouchers directly or use to buy JL vouchers in a different shop.

stomachameleon · 01/02/2024 22:08

@modgepodge that's not true. They have a website and you can check your balances for free on there by inputting card number.

Namechangedforspooky · 01/02/2024 23:03

Thank you. The one4all website isn’t allowing swap for vouchers currently so wondered if you could swap in store

Namechangedforspooky · 01/02/2024 23:03

And I agree, awful vouchers. So difficult to use!

Aargh I have just gone into WHSmith and been told they won’t allow “voucher swaps”. Wondering if this is a general thing @Namechangedforspooky

i’m annoyed if so because I’ve promised my kids I’ll exchange the ones they got for Christmas for gaming vouchers

Adviceneededpl · 06/02/2024 14:13

I hate these cards.

they always go to waste n our house.

GeordieDownSouth · 25/02/2024 16:46

It says that this service is unavailable?!?

Does anyone know what I can do with the cards?!?

Hadsuchahardday · 29/12/2024 16:52

I’m surprised by many of these comments. I’ve used them for years- in actual shops. There’s no problem at all if you know what the balance is which you can check for free online. If you have less then the item costs you tell the til person ie £10 item, you have £8.16, they will deduct that and you pay the remainder how you wish. Simples!

cardibach · 29/12/2024 19:31

I use them in shops too, @Hadsuchahardday , but it’s stupid that you have to know. The till must be telling them - they aren’t taking your word for it.
