TMI Laxido - is Diarrhea with Constipation a thing?

Dinnertimewoop · 15/12/2023 22:02

I was incredibly constipated. 2 bowel movements (small ones) a week.

Nurse prescribed Laxido.

It's so strange, I'm having loose bowel movements and long pencil thin stools, but I'm still having to push to get them out. Then when they come out they are soft, so no idea why they're a struggle. Feels like there's something stopping it at the last min. Should I stop Laxido? Does this sound like overflow?

Yes @Catmummyof2 I had a finger up there at my original appointment... she said I had a fissure but no piles. Didn't mention anything about a prolapse - the thought of that scares me, is that treatable?

Don’t stop the Laxido.

I experience similar. It’s like my body is full of poop, and it’s soft, and yet it had no urge to have a bowel movement at all. Like you say, it’s easy to pass if you strain, but you don’t want to be straining ideally.

I think I have issues with bowel motility. Well, I know I do!

Keep taking the Laxido and you might find that your gut wakes up and everything passes easily soon.

Don't stop laxido, it will be overflow.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/12/2023 22:11

Absolutely agree that this sounds like overflow. I wouldn't stop the movicol.

Dinnertimewoop · 15/12/2023 22:11

@Jellycats4life oh thats a relief, thanks! Yes, and I often feel that if I don't go to the toilet AS SOON AS I've felt a stomach rumble, then I end up very constipated. It's hard to go the very second you need to, unless you hang about in the toilet all day. So this happens a lot.

Yes I am pretty much full of shit (knew that already tho...).

I've checked my anus, doesn't look prolapsed, thank the heavens.

There's also a lot of undigested food in my Laxido stools. Have any of you had that?

Dinnertimewoop · 15/12/2023 22:13

I also feel absolutely knackered after a trip to the toilet! Don't think I've lost this much poo in a long time. First time I've not felt bloated in months.

whatausername · 15/12/2023 22:17

I'm not sure if it's overflow or not but I do think a follow-up appointment is warranted.

Dinnertimewoop · 15/12/2023 22:18

@whatausername I will call in January. I have about 2 weeks worth of Laxido to take.

Definitely don't stop

Dinnertimewoop · 15/12/2023 22:22

@Catmummyof2 thanks for your reply. I am on day 4 of Laxido so still early days. Might be adjusting. Good undigested food is normal.

I became curious and did a search. It's aimed at parents but it is about macrogols. See page 5, undigested food isn't unusual!

Also aimed at children, but some of the constipation resources on www.eric.org.uk are good.

OP I am having the same problem right now and did a post the other day titled "unordinary Constipation" - it's like am I constipated if it's soft but I need to strain to get it out?
I know it's been a month so I wondering if you had an update?
I've been on fybogel with limited success and so my GP wants to swap me to laxido. I'm also going over to the surgery this afternoon to have a rectal exam as I do have an external pile that's never been inspected.

Dinnertimewoop · 12/01/2024 21:45

Hey @Nogodsnomasters 👋

I'm actually being referred to the hospital for bleeding in stool. The constipation cleared but the blood persists! Waiting on other tests in the meantime. Sorry I don't know more. I'll let you know how it turns out for me x

I suffer with IBS, worse in the past. Constipation and diarrhea in the same movement is not uncommon.

I think if you then suffer with constipation and use laxitives it can have the same effect, Ive had this recently

Thanks for replying, sorry you have bleeding now with yours. That's one thing I don't have and I've had the stool sample done to check for trace bloods also negative. The GP examined me yesterday and could find nothing wrong bar the single external pile which she said looked fine. So I'm no further forward.
So the laxido stopped your soft movements and need to strain?

Dinnertimewoop · 13/01/2024 17:07

@Nogodsnomasters no, I had soft stools but still had to strain. Was very strange.

Thanks so much. Hoping I get answers to. Thats a good result for your sample, wishing you the best x

So the laxido didn't resolve that and you're still straining to pass the soft movements now? X

Dinnertimewoop · 14/01/2024 00:03

No it didn't resolve it x

Hi OP any update on your situation? I ended up with a fecal impaction at the start of the month, had an x ray at a&e which showed this so I was put on high dose of laxido to clear this and I'm now trying to work out my maintenance dose but the laxido has side effects of stomach gurgling, achy feeling and excess wind.
