Why is a simple thank you so difficult?

A man I've known a long time through a shared hobby also worked in my organisation until 3 or 4 years ago.
He asked me last week if I could get a low-cost branded item for him which is only available to staff (one only), on request. I didn't want mine so ordered it for him. Sent him a photo of it this morning at 10am and a short text to say I'd give it to him in January.
The message was read within minutes and so far no acknowledgement whatsoever.
So tempted to keep it for myself now.

I wouldn't take it to heart, its possible that he's read it quickly and then got sidetracked with work or something else and hasn't got around to replying. If you haven't heard anything within the next 24 hours then yes, I'd say he was rude

And also yes, I'd keep it for myself then

Fuck him. Keep it and if he asks say you don't know where it is..
