Should I take this cremant back?

Does anyone know what this stuff on the bottle neck might be? It doesn't smell bad, but I haven't seen anything like it before.

Should I take this cremant back?

I'd open it and see what it's like - take a picture including the label before opening, though.

PamelaParis · 15/12/2023 19:32

Only on Mumsnet! 😂 It's on the glass, not in the bottle. Your cremant (whatever that is) will be absolutely fine.

PickledPurplePickle · 15/12/2023 19:39

As long as the drink is OK why worry?

Daisies12 · 15/12/2023 19:41

Really? Again MN baffles me what people notice and care about, assuming the wine is fine

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/12/2023 19:49

You've taken a picture, so just open it and see if there's anything wrong with it (seems unlikely as the cork is technically intact). If there does happen to be then just take it back next time you go wherever you got it.

SumthingAndNuthing · 15/12/2023 20:01

Thanks for replies. I’m ND so I do notice these things @Daisies12. I rarely drink (it’s for guests), so I wasn’t sure whether to serve it or open another bottle and take this one back unopened. I’ll get someone to do a taste test 🙂

I wouldn't drink that.

SumthingAndNuthing · 15/12/2023 20:04

Apparently it tastes weird.

Noticing gunk on the neck of a bottle of what is presumably a fairly expensive bottle of fizz is not unusual, so please don't let previous posters make you feel like you have done anything wrong in posting. I'm a bit of a lush so I'd be tempted to wipe off the gunk, give it a sniff and if it's not smelly, open the bottle and try the wine.

Phonedown · 15/12/2023 20:08

@PamelaParis why are you bothering to post on a thread titled "Should I take this cremant back?" if you have no idea what cremant is...was it just to make op feel bad?

SumthingAndNuthing · 15/12/2023 20:14

All fine now guys. It wasn’t drinkable so it’s gone down the sink and I’ll see if I can get a refund from M&S on the empty bottle.

@PamelaParis, Cremant is French sparkling wine similar to champagne, just not made in the Champagne region.

Op, I know you said you're not a big drinker but the Cremant de Limoux from Morrisons is my fave and it's on offer just now for £9...huge bargain.

I wouldn’t embarrass myself by asking for a refund on an empty bottle 😂

Hence my hesitation in opening it!

I remembered that i purchased it from Ocado and they gave me a full refund and apology 😊🍾
