Small gathering of 19 year olds - my teen wants to host an intimate house party for 10 and cater but needs ideas for food - everything I suggest is met with an eye roll. HELP!

Has your teen suggested anything?
What have you suggested so far that gets an eye roll?

Cas112 · 14/12/2023 21:04

Just order 3/4 large pizzas

Needmorelego · 14/12/2023 21:04

Pringles and pizza I would have thought?

lazarusb · 14/12/2023 21:05

Sushi, crisps and dips, rice crackers, samosa, pakoras, nachos with guacamole, salsa and jalapenos. Brownies, cookies and Rocky Road for sweet?

Just ideas that mine liked at that age. Oh, and lots of bloody Pringles!

Mexican? Nachos, tacos, fajitas etc

Feliciacat · 14/12/2023 21:06

If your budget can stretch then I’d say Nando’s, KFC, pizza or McDonald’s. Or ask your DC what they want seeing as how they eyeroll at everything.

Also copious amounts of crisps, sweets, fizzy pop and alcopops.

Just order Dominos

JacquiDaytona · 14/12/2023 21:07

Pizza is the only answer, surely??

Alighttouchonthetiller · 14/12/2023 21:13

Pizza

Or go 'Retro Kids' Birthday Party' with stuff on sticks and sausage rolls and Iced Party Rings and all thar. But pizza is easier and more likely to be eaten.

SecondUsername4me · 14/12/2023 21:21

Order a Party Sub

CuttingAllTheFlowersStill · 14/12/2023 21:35

Pizza or Sushi or whatever your child is happy to cook!

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 14/12/2023 21:39

I have an 18yo. In this situation, she wouldn't be rolling her eyes at me, she would be googling ideas, deciding what to make ale maybe asking me for advice.

Tell her your budget if there is one, and chuck it right back at her. Let her plan the menu if she's going to be so ungrateful. If you're feeling really kind, you could offer to help with the food prep.

NotFastButFurious · 14/12/2023 21:55

Our graduates at work seem to eat a lot of sushi and bento boxes at lunchtimes and they wonder why they’re all skint and can put away Dominoes pizza like it’s going out of fashion. If they’re going to be drinking I’d advise something stodgy!!

Are you just looking for 'something' to fill them up because 19 yr olds are always starving and it is also good to soak up the booze ? - in which case just get them to bung some pizzas in the oven

or

Does your dc want to create a nice, varied buffet, because they enjoy hosting / cooking ?
In which case we can probably come up with some ideas between us.

Gymnopedie · 15/12/2023 01:26

Tell her it's on her to come up with a menu. Give her a budget and tell her that if she wants to spend more she has to fund it.

You've tried and all she's said is no. So now it's her turn.

Your credit card details and a takeaway delivery app?

MrsFloof · 15/12/2023 03:22

Pizza and / or pasta. A lot are veggie / vegan here but don't eat veg apart from on soggy cold Dominoes pizzas
