Toxic couples in tv shows

What tv show couple are heralded as “end game” but are actually quite toxic to each other.

I’ll start with Piper and Alex from Orange is the new black. Yes they are cute together and yes they love each other, but they really are toxic to each other too.

Everyone in Love Actually.

This. I literally felt soiled after seeing that movie.

I hated Raymond. He is the very definition of whiny mothers boy man child

That show and the Marie character Raymond's mother and how they all treat Deborah with a 'aww what's mom like..' gives me the rage!

Peter and Louis Griffin. But at least its part of the joke we're laughing at.

Shiv Roy and Tom Wamsgans

😂 to be fair I don't think anyone thinks they're the couple to aspire to

Wills & Kate 🥰

(spectacularly missing the ‘TV show brief Grin)

Oh, I don't know. The whole institution is pretty much a glorified soap opera, anyway!

Everyone in Love Actually.

Absolutely. This to the power 100.

The Romeo and Juliet made me think of another Shakespeare one:
Oberon and Titania. That's not nice.

Medea and Jason is another whopper of toxicity. Murdering your own sons to get at their father is quite the move.

Treating "TV shows" here with a wide definition of adaptations!! :)

These character are not from a TV programme, but I still think they fit the bill. Eddie and Clarrie Grundy. She has worked so hard both inside and outside of the home for over forty years. He obviously adores her, but she could have had a much easier and more comfortable life with someone else.

Jack Bristow and Irina Derevko

wow@SerafinasGoose, that's niche.

Totally agree with you though.
I used to enjoy that show as a guilty pleasure. It was rubbish but great fun!

Rick & Lori - The Walking Dead

I think that some of the older couples, like Bill and Vera Duckworth are of the generation where you just didn’t get divorced, you simply stayed together because there was no option.

I agree that I love Pam and Mick.

I have always thought that Tom in the Good Life was an arse. She has been an at home wife all her life and gets nothing, not even one nice dress.
Richard Briers said that he never liked him.

Mumof1andacat · 15/12/2023 17:57

I could say Den and Angie from Eastenders but they deserved each other

janfebmarchapril · 15/12/2023 18:01

Lynette and Tom scavo

Ha! Me too. It was a totally OTT crock really - especially all the crackpot pseudo philosophy/science about Rambaldi and the 'Mueller Device' - but damn was it FUN! So feel-good. I was hooked, and still rewatch from time to time.

Turefu · 15/12/2023 18:34

@SerafinasGoose I agree about Mr Bennett. Mrs Bennett, as stupid as she was , at least she was trying to secure future for her daughters, while her husband didn’t give a hoot. He had a good income, he could simply save up for his daughter’s dowries, but simply didn’t bother. Luckily, it’s Jane Austin, so it has to be a happy end.

Derek and Meredith in Grey's Anatomy.

Came to say the same

tobee · 15/12/2023 19:28

Still laughing remembering Roy and Renee from The Fast Show; just had to watch some on YouTube.

Agree with some re the Jerry and Margo relationship being functional in the GL and not toxic.

Re George & Mildred - I saw some again recently; didn't really watch it at the time, George had absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever. Always feel sorry for Mildred (although Mildred: leave him!) and then segue into feeling sad about Ypotha Joyce.

Niles & Maris Crane.

thedementedelf · 15/12/2023 20:54

I think Heidi and Spencer Pratt were toxic in the hills.
