From what I've read, his mother didn't have main care/residential custody but was given permission to take him on holiday with his grandfather. While on holiday she absconded with the child, they were believed to be living in various communes. He has now left his mother and attempted to return home where he's been found by a passing motorist who gave him a lift to the police station.
