Stingy guests

Our, much wealthier, quests have just turned up to stay for 2 days with a box of mini tonics but no gin. Stingy or what?

Whatineed · 14/12/2023 14:36

So just serve them a tonic with ice and a slice. 😂😂😂

Wolvesart · 14/12/2023 14:36

Weird and stingy, gin without tonic is fine but other way round - unless you are teetotal - is not on.

And leave out the ice and the slice!

Guiltypleasures001 · 14/12/2023 14:38

No glass stick a straw in the bottle

ZenNudist · 14/12/2023 14:39

Back story? Do they expect you to supply gin?

RoseRows · 14/12/2023 14:39

How bizarre. Is anyone teetotal in the group?

Milknosugarta · 14/12/2023 14:42

I'd say "what, no gin"?

They've "accidentally" left the gin in the car and won't bring it in unless you mention it.

More CF's relying on the over politeness of people. 😠😡

AdoraBell · 14/12/2023 14:44

I would hide the gin and just serve the tonic water. Then once they leave sit down and enjoy a well deserved G&T

peerie · 14/12/2023 14:45

Nobody teetotal (all enjoy a wee drink) and obviously we are expected to supply gin and all meals while they are here as we're miles from any shops!

OP posts:
peerie · 14/12/2023 14:46

This, I bet there is a bottle in the car

pizzaHeart · 14/12/2023 14:46

Treat it at face value - they’ve brought what they wanted to drink so tonic it is.
It’s their hint that they are teetotalers now .

Milknosugarta · 14/12/2023 14:48

It's really only polite to provide some drinks if your hosts are feeding you.
I'd tell them your out of gin and send them to the shops. Be upfront about it.

peerie · 14/12/2023 14:51

I suspected this might happen so only had a small amount of gin available - male part said "I see the gin's rationed" 😲

OP posts:
Milknosugarta · 14/12/2023 14:53

😲 That's outrageous! Plain tonic for him then.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/12/2023 14:56

What else can you ration?
Toilet paper, maybe.

Bread - 2 slices at a time.

I would really deeply enjoy this. And then not invite them again- how strange they are.

Bandolina · 14/12/2023 14:58

When he said that did you not reply 'I rather assumed you would bring some' because I would. Call it out.

GMsAWinner · 14/12/2023 15:03

Obviously they'd bought what they'd like to drink. If you're serving G&T, prep in kitchen adding gin to yours (they won't know) and they can have the tonic. If any comment is made, you've served them what you thought they wanted to drink and the rest of the gin is for xmas.

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 14/12/2023 15:09

Draw them a bloody map to the shops...

CrikeyMajikey · 14/12/2023 15:19

ohhh I love a CF thread! Getting my popcorn ready. Please keep us updated.

I would do the old trick of dipping a finger in a G&T and running it around the rim of an empty clean glass, then pour tonic in and add a slice of lime & ice. It fooled my drunken Grannie every xmas.

Excellent call on your part.

PandorasMailbox · 14/12/2023 15:25

Hand them a paper cup to put it in 😁

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/12/2023 16:08

At face value it sounds stingy but who are they? I’d assume that if they’re close enough to be staying with you then they’re either family (whose odd quirks are generally forgivable because family) or good friends who you wouldn’t have invited if they are usually mean and stingy, so they’ve just brought a contribution.

lesdeluges · 14/12/2023 16:21

"Where's the gin to go with this?"

That's all you say. You have none in the house of course.

I'm straight up and wouldn't hesitate to shame the feckers.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/12/2023 16:38

I'm assuming they're family so I would have asked if they've brought gin to go with them
It's the least guests can do if hosted

What a CF!!! 😧😧😧

if you do end up cracking and buy gin please make sure it’s the cheap stuff…
