Adverts that upset you

I HATE the CHAS advert, it really affects me.

Which ones do you find difficult to watch?

JustAGirlScotland · 14/12/2023 12:21

Pretty much all of them.

It it's not a charity then it's funerals, aids for the elderly, life insurance....it's all very depressing. I refuse to watch them now.

ElectricMagpie · 14/12/2023 12:33

This year's Shelter ad (music used is Higher Love). The girl waking up in a dingy room on Christmas morning, disappointed that she hadn't got her wish despite trying so hard to be good 😞

XenoBitch · 14/12/2023 12:39

It is an old one, but there used to be an advert about captive bears, and it started with a chained bear just rocking back and forth.
It not only upset me, it gave me awful anxiety for ages after seeing it.

Tempnamechng · 14/12/2023 12:44

It isn't so much the individual adverts, it's when they have a run of them, one after another, usually on ITV 3. One advert will be a screaming bear cub, the next will be a shivering chained up dog, the next a young girl at risk of child marriage. You have to be able to disengage and becime immune to it to cope, which is awful. They are very deliberately targeting their audiences.

EmmaEmerald · 14/12/2023 13:22

I don't see ads often because I only stream TV

But reading this makes me think, no wonder the world is struggling to cope.

When at mum's, I mute the ads and we use it as a talk break. She is now struggling with ads and does it when I'm not there.

I still remember an awful advert at the cinema which I thought was going was going to be about personal safety but turned out to be about a disease.

I was nearly late going into the film the next time, I asked the staff for a time frame in order to avoid ads but just got back in in time.

It sounds like it's getting worse rather than better.

MeinKraft · 14/12/2023 13:25

The Barnardos Komodo dragon one really stuck with me.

givemushypeasachance · 14/12/2023 13:49

Animals being abused always gets me.

The "Granny, I got the job!" advert used to fill me with rage through seeing it every five minutes!

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/12/2023 14:10

I can't remember the last time I saw an advert.

We gave up a TV license years ago, don't miss it at all and just stream to view films/youtube/netflix if or when we have it etc. All my devices have adblock or I pay for the ad free option if it's netflix.

Mittens1717 · 14/12/2023 14:23

There's one on RTE at the minute for Pieta House, ( it's an Irish charity for the prevention of suicide) where a guy rings one of the councillors and they're chatting away but he's really distressed on the line and I just find it so hard to watch

DRS1970 · 14/12/2023 14:24

Daisy, daisy, daisy, daisy...

Need I say more.

Yes this. Have to quickly press the mute button every time it comes on. So annoying 🙄

Northsideoftheriver · 14/12/2023 15:33

Radio ads. One at the minute is a festive Costa at the petrol station, helpfully making a mum's life a bit easier. It gets played too much. Once they did two back to back. Why I didn't press off I don't know?

TV ads: anything annoys me. I don't like Waitrose ads at the minute. Graham Norton features and I can't watch it.

SoRainbowRhythms · 14/12/2023 15:34

The one with the poor donkeys that get worked to death

DyslexicPoster · 14/12/2023 15:39

I don't like any of the charity ones. Like the news I will turn it down or not watch them. Bit like news, try to avoid things that make me feel upset. I mean it's fine if your feeling OK but it's all a bit much when your already feeling shitty

I keep seeing the Amazon Prime one with the elderly ladies going sledging down a hill. It is on during every ad break! Is doing my head in.

SM4713 · 14/12/2023 23:26

Incontinence adverts which implying that its part of a regular womens' aging process and expected!
Its not normal at all to live like that and put up with it!!!
Its likely a prolapse which can be fixed! Obviously the incontinence companies want people to buy their products, so won't tell people to see their GP/continence nurse/specialist and seek help and support.

This!!! 😢 😢 😢 😢

The radio ads with emergency vehicle sirens. They always make me jump and start looking around. There are a couple of records with them too. Should be banned!

Glasgowgal200 · 14/12/2023 23:58

Can't watch animal abuse ads or children's hospital ones or world crisis funds ads

Northernsouloldies · 15/12/2023 00:06

There is one shown in Scotland, where a young child fades from mums arms and she is left holding a soft toy. It's an ad for children's hospice iirc.

JamSandle · 15/12/2023 00:07

I dont watch them. I find a lot of them quite depressing/low vibrational.

TheFormidableMrsC · 15/12/2023 00:14

Anything cancer. I've had cancer. It's so triggering.

Owl55 · 29/08/2024 22:56

No wonder children fear cancer , far too many cancer charity ads , depressing particulary in the daytime .
