Parcel delivered to previous owner

Amazon delivered a parcel to the previous owner of our house. I didn’t realise at first because it’s that time of year where I have lots of Amazon deliveries myself. I’m nowhere near a post office or anything, public transport is terrible and I can’t drive for health reasons. How do I get the parcel to its rightful owner?

Contact Amazon - they are usually helpful on their phone lines.

Vasilevich · 14/12/2023 11:51

I would just contact amazon to let them know and see if they will contact the owner via email (possibly to pass on your mobile number).

I definitely would not get involved with posting or delivering - it is the owners responsibility to sort out their mistake. They can either collect it or Amazon can.

Sorry just realised I meant to say the owner or sender - not necessarily the same person!

I reported it to Amazon and they just told me to keep the parcel.

Probably the most cost effective thing all round.

Bit unsettling though and possibly a PITA to get something you don't want!

Is it something you want?

I reported it to Amazon and they just told me to keep the parcel.

I’m not surprised, I tried to return something last week and they refunded me but told me to keep the item. They’re too busy at the moment, it’s cheaper to just write stuff off.

IncompleteSenten · 14/12/2023 12:41

Then do that. It's for them to sort out. You don't need to do anything more.

BeckhamSeven · 14/12/2023 12:49

We had this (unfortunately not Amazon - they are at least easy to get in touch with!)
We kept it for about 6 months incase they called round having realised their mistake, and then after that kept it.

I’d let the estate agent know they should have a forwarding address for the previous owner. Can then drop it into the estate agent’s on your own time.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/12/2023 13:16

I would let Amazon sort it out. You have let them know and they told you to keep it. I wouldn't give it another thought.

Ponderingwindow · 14/12/2023 13:17

Amazon will have already sent a new item to the correct address. The contents won’t be high value enough to warrant collecting. So at this point you open the package and see if the contents are anything useful or interesting.

then you report to us so we can share in the fun.

absolute worst case scenario, something ends up in a landfill, but most likely you will be able to use, gift, or donate.
