Oh dear, it's Christmas soon, isn't it?

I was in town yesterday, and there were decorations and Christmas trees everywhere. It made it hard to ignore what's coming. I think I'm going to have to do something soon. Is there anyone else who hasn't done one single thing about Christmas yet?

I've bought one present, put up a 40cm Christmas tree and one piece of tinsel. I'm skint, a bit depressed and generally wish I was somewhere else. My life last year was soooo much better. This past 6 months have been grim.

I'm half arsing it this year, I'm living in the middle of a full house reno, therefore I can't put up my tree, what do I put the presents under?

My heart isn't in it at all, but I know I have to do something!

I think I'll be running around with all the men folk on Christmas Eve panic buying!

I lost my mum unexpectly at the end of October and we only had her funeral last week. I've put the tree up for the kids and we're going out today to do the Christmas shopping. I'm so not feeling it but youngest is 10 and I think this is her last year of "believing" so want to make a bit of effort. (I'm not sure if she actually does or not but I'm waiting for her to ask).

I do not stress it, and leave most things until what some one call last minute, Xmas Eve. People make it far too complicated than need be. I laugh out loud at some of the Xmas threads on here, the sheer competitiveness as to who can make Xmas the most difficult and miserable.

Time40 · 14/12/2023 13:35

@BusterGonad Sorry you've been having a grim time. I hope next year is better for you.

@KatnissNeverdone Sorry for your loss, Katniss.

I'm currently really unwell with one thing and another and can barely get from my bedroom to the bathroom a few feet away. I can't physically get to the front door to accept deliveries.

I'm fascinated as to when my nearest and dearest will finally twig that there won't be any presents or Xmas fripperies from me happening this year.

I just prefer to get it done early, before the festive pressure starts. We don't buy masses of gifts or go overboard so I typically get it done in November, I'd wrapped it all by Dec 1st and popped in a cupboard. It's not a big job when you limit what you buy and it's so much more pleasant shopping in Oct/November when the shops are empty and the couriers have no backlog.

Trees up, I flung a garland on the fireplace and that's all I'm doing. I do quite like Christmas but have a fairly neutral stance, I'm not prepared to let it become something that stresses me out.

Thank you. I went to the mall with my son today and took note of all the bits he liked. I'm hopeful I can get it all done in time.

Keep it as simple as possible, judging by the posts on this site some people are on the verge of cracking up from perceived stress, it’s crazy to let it get to that point, it’ll all be over soon, really not worth getting in a stew, it’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad how worked up some people are, as PP said it’s like a competition

Datdamndamp · 15/12/2023 15:57

Nobody told me this. I can't be expected to work it out from an advent calendar. I love Christmas but it sneaks up every year (this is my busiest time of the year for work).

I've bought one present, have some birthday ones I forgot to give out to the recipients. Other than that done nothing and now down with COVID.

Lentilweaver · 15/12/2023 15:57

I don't do Christmas.

Resisterance · 15/12/2023 16:04

Nothing yet. I am always someone who puts stuff up around mid December but no time recently, work, study, single parenting and was banjaxed by a chest infection recently and still feel grim from that. It all feels overwhelming!

I've got a far as getting stuff out of the loft but now it's sitting around in boxes which I keep tripping over.

I wish someone would come round and make Christmas happen!
