In agony with tooth. Don't know what to do

I have a tooth that needs taking out, part of it has cracked and come away. It's second to back on the bottom. It flares up every now abd then, but this time I have a lump on my jaw under it and what feels like a sore gland. I can't afford a dentist. What on earth can I do?

There are no emergency dentists for Miles around

Call 111 - depending on your area they may be able to get you seen.

Also get yourself to a pharmacist if you need better pain management.

Good luck! 🤞

Do you have a dental hospital close to you? There will be a wait but the treatment is free (as it's carried out by students under direction).

Sending sympathy, do not ignore this. Agree could be a dental emergency, have you tried contacting a dentist and explaining the situation, they may be be able to work out a payment plan with you or at least advise best course of action.

I had this, I rang the dentist who said I'd been de registered with them due to not attending for 2 years but they wrote me a script for antibiotics and told me the tooth needed treatment or it would happen again eventually so to get registered and come in after a while. But yeah you might not need to go in for extraction straight away.

Call 111.

I had a dental abscess and it gave me sepsis. Don't mess about when teeth are involved.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 13/12/2023 13:34

Thanks, I've managed to find a "normal" dentist that does emergency treatment. No idea on cist at this stage. I'll call them when I get a break at work.

Good luck OP, tooth abcesses are just awful, the worst pain ever.

backtowinter · 13/12/2023 13:45

Poor you. As much pain relief as you can manage

It's ridiculous that dentists are not available

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 13/12/2023 17:59

@backtowinter it's shameful that nhs dentists are disappearing and people(like me) are being bumped from their books. I'm in a union at work, we can get £500 towards NHS dental treatment. Great, what about those of us with no NHS dentist?? No help at all
