Can anyone help with this US format phone no question?

I am ordering my parents who are in the US a Christmas gift from Drizly (which was recommended on here). I am in the U.K.

i cannot checkout the order without inputting MY phone number in. I don’t want to put my parents number in as it’s to ‘verify the order and confirm delivery progress’. it’s asked for the recipients number in a different section and I’ve done that.

The website won’t accept my number. I have messaged them but they haven’t responded and I really need to get this order in to get there in time. I have a landline and a mobile but neither fit the boxes.

anyone got any ideas how I can get past this?

I've tried to use Drizly before and they need a US number

They also need a phone number for the actual delivery, as it cannot be left if they are not in

TummyTuckNameChange · 11/12/2023 15:02

Try putting +44 in front of your number instead of the 0
So if it's 07234 put +447234

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 11/12/2023 15:05

Or 011 44 7234 might work if they can take an international no

but if they need a US no perhaps not....

PickledPurplePickle · 11/12/2023 15:20

The format of a US number is +1 111 1234567

Country code - +1
Area code - 111

Do you think they would ever actually call it? Is there a space for your email address. If you dont think they actually need aphone number then just put in 774 2341033. Which is the Drizly main phone number and would probably mean their system will accept your order and they will email you if there is a problem as it clearly is not correct

Xiaoxiong · 11/12/2023 15:26

I was about to say the same as @SeaToSki - I often put the business's own telephone number into those forms, especially if they want a landline number that is different from what's listed as the mobile number (I don't have a landline). I know that they also have my email address. If they need to contact me they'll email me anyway.

VimFuego101 · 11/12/2023 15:27

Could you sign up for a free CloudSim app trial - I use this to give me a UK phone number that can receive texts (I live abroad and want to keep my UK bank accs active, they need a UK phone number). You should be able use it to get a temp US mobile number and receive delivery texts.

Thanks all. Sorry work went a bit mad or I would have replied sooner.

@PickledPurplePickle i have my parents US cell for the delivery, but I don’t want to use it again in the ‘tell us about you’ box as I don’t want them getting any order info or anything confusing like ‘thank you for your order’ when it’s not them who’ve placed it.

when you’ve put the number in you do have to click a verify button below - so I’ll try their number and see what happens!!

such a faff for 2 bottles of wine. But getting boozy drinks delivered to rural Texas is seemingly very tricky! I’ve done all the other stuff to death - flowers, chocolate, restaurant vouchers etc etc!!

Nope - putting their No in doesn’t work. They want to send me a verification code before proceeding, which of course I won’t receive! Back to the drawing board!

If it's wine, could you order from Amazon and get it delivered?

Just a thought.

I wish…I don’t think there is a way? You can do it for the U.K. from US but not the other way around.

What about the Flaviar advent?

SeaToSki · 11/12/2023 19:52

It looks like you can give a gift where the recipient schedules the delivery time…..maybe its an online voucher and wont need a phone number

Tried. You need an order number as well as a designated recipient no. Sadly!!

I’ve given up and used a hamper company. I don’t believe the wine will be as good but that’s the way it is! And I’m sure I’ve paid 3x the amount it would be for retail of the same wines, if not more.

if this is how it’s going to be then I may well look into a virtual US number for the future. Any other gifts will be recycled versions of prior and it’s all getting a little dull.

Any other bright ideas for US based online gifts hugely appreciated though! They seem to order from Amazon to us with no issues whatsoever.

@QuestionableMouse that looks brilliant, will keep that noted.

No idea how good it is - I literally googled "wine delivery rural Texas" and it popped up! 😁

Use Amazon US to order gifts or Harry and David. Goldbelly. Garnet Hill Etsy

StarlightLady · 12/12/2023 07:36

It depends whether you 100% trust the site. In the past on another north American site l made one up.

Greenfinch7 · 12/12/2023 07:46

I was going to say, you are welcome to use my US phone number, and we can have a chat beforehand so you can meet me and see I am not a crazy criminal!!
I have spent a lot of time dealing with things like this because I have family on both sides of the Atlantic- such a pain...

Londonnight · 12/12/2023 07:58

My family are in Canada and I use AmazanCA for anything to go to them.

I have tried different companies but often they won't accept UK card details or phone numbers. AmazonCA are about the only ones that do.

Does the US have something similar you can use?

This is so kind, thank you!!!! I have now made an alternative option, but if you don’t mind, I will bookmark this as next time round it’s birthdays/Father’s Day/ Xmas and I have the same issue I may well again need a contact over the water!! Much appreciated!
