East Coast train mayhem

I’m reading Twitter and the chaos at Grantham is astounding. The police have now been called to an incident.

DH and I were in London yesterday and were booked to return home at 10pm. All the trains were cancelled at Kings Cross and there was no one to be seen or in charge. We were lucky as my sister lives in N London and we’d spent the day with her so we went back to her house to camp out for the night.

We managed to jump on a train at 9am and fortunately we are home. But the stories I’m reading on Twitter are horrendous. I’m at a loss for words. It’s easy to say “Don’t travel” but if you’re away from home then sometimes you HAVE to travel. And don’t even try to find a hotel room in central London at 10.30pm on a Saturday night two weeks before Christmas.

Here’s a handhold for everyone caught up in the chaos this weekend.

I hope you get home safe.

We had to travel down to London today from Newark. The winds were so bad last night we looked at each other and said "the trains are going to go down aren't they?" And indeed they did. LNER is generally a really good line, but weather like that does knacker it; was the same in Storms Babet and Ciaran. We made it, but only thanks to a very kind family member giving us a lift to Peterborough so we could pick up a train from there. Looks like they are running again now, albeit with delays.
