child first passport - parents documents needed?

Hi all

Applying for a child’s first passport. Did the application online. When I checked the documentation to provide for parents - see attached, it wasn’t clear to us as to what documents to send. We called the passport office twice and provided two very different answers and now even more confused. One said we need dads parents' documentation i.e. birth certificate & marriage certificate but this is not mentioned at all on the PARENTS DOCUMENTS.

Can anyone advise exactly what documents we need to provide for our child's first passport?

Child - born in 2023 in U.K

Mother - born in 1997 in India - currently on a spouse visa

Dad - born in 1991 in U.K.

Dad’s father - born 1966 - in U.K.
Dad's mother - born in India

All living in U.K.

many thanks

I’m no expert but I can’t imagine you’d need more than your child’s birth certificate, showing both parents details, and the birth certificate of the child’s dad, since he was born in the UK. This is all the baby needs to be entitled to a passport. Grandparents wouldn’t come into this at all.

You'll need the child's dad's birth certificate, and if his dad was born after January 1983 you'll also need the child's grand parent who was born in the U.K.'s birth certificate. If the other grandparent has a naturalisation certificate that would be helpful.
Hope that helps.

I would imagine all that's needed is your dh's passport number and the birth certificate for your child. The British citizenship will be passed to your child from your dh's side of the family.
