What's going on with FB?

Admittedly I only have a select few friends and family on FB, quite a few groups too. But my feed is full of utterly random stuff. Including today quite grim scenes from films that are too gory for me. I don't even know how you'd choose not to see these kind of film clips? None of them I'm following. It's hard to see what I'd normally go on FB to see, like my local groups.

What am I doing wrong? Why has it changed so much? I'm missing the local Christmas events and seeing films of people having their skin ripped off. How do you get rid of the stuff your not following?

Agreed OP, mine is just full of drivel. I hardly go on now as I just have to scroll past total shit.

Dogcatmousedog · 10/12/2023 00:37

I have friends on FB that I never see and they don’t see my posts 🤷‍♀️Not sure what the answer is.

DyslexicPoster · 10/12/2023 00:46

I'm wondering if there is any setting I need to tweak? But the gory stuff is new and just too much. I'm a real wimp after watching 18 films as a pre teen with my mum. I generally ask why a films a 15 before watching it and never watch 18 films. I wanted to see my friends with father Christmas 😆 I keep getting sacked into watching the reels too. Five minutes scrolling with a cup of tea turns into 30 minutes and I haven't seen anything from my friends or groups.

Have a look for your device settings for 'autoplay' and toggle to OFF. It might be in your FB settings too. At least then you won't see moving images/video clips without choosing to press 'play'.

MrsPinkSky · 10/12/2023 00:52

Maybe try clearing your cookies and history.

It's a pain because you'll have to log back into everything again, but it does clear out the shite.

SerpentEndBench · 10/12/2023 00:52

And wrt the clips, you can hide/block each particular page (pages, sometimes) - do keep on blocking til the algorithm works out that you do not want to consume that type of content.

ButterCupPie · 10/12/2023 00:56

There's an app called FaceBook Purity (FBP) that you can set to block an awful lot of annoying stuff. Google it.

Hippodogamus · 10/12/2023 00:56

That is just Facebook nowadays. My feed is full of advertisements for crap that never lives up to the claims. Oh and young mothers showing me their tidying routines etc 🥱 It’s so bizarre.

stayathomer · 10/12/2023 00:59

If you click into some of your friends’ feeds and like a few posts for example, I find you start seeing more stuff from them. I got a pop up message from Fb the other day asking if I wanted to pay to see less/no ads! Yes I do want less, no way I’ll pay!!!

LovelaceBiggWither · 10/12/2023 01:03

FBP is the solution to all this crap as a PP says.

SnapdragonToadflax · 10/12/2023 01:03

I get loads of posts from history groups... which are vaguely interesting, I do like history, but I've never liked or followed anything to do with these time periods.

And the ads! It's one post, three ads, a set of Reels, more ads. Ridiculous.
