Erm, they are unnecessary gadgets to waste money on. You can make soup and rice in a pan as it’s been done for hundreds of years and the robot hoover thing was £400!!! 😳 It’s peak Mumsnet

Sure. And we could all go down to a river and strip off, wash our clothes, then have a dip to wash ourselves and then run around nuddie for a bit while the clothes semi-dried enough to wear back. Why bother with unnecessary gadgets such as a washing machine, shower, or hell, entire bathroom for that matter when people managed it that way for hundreds of years. Ffs. There’s always one!

Hi @Ukrainebaby23 I've worn NHS HAs for ten years. The signias I'm trying via Specsavers and I think the difference is noticeable: better speech clarity, automatic tuning to voices, direction and environment plus Bluetooth.

ThreeRingCircus · 12/12/2023 11:11

For those praising coverless duvets, do you have cotton ones? I wouldn't want to sleep under polyester after cotton. And are they practical if you don't tumble dry? I can wash and dry a king sized cotton cover over the airer in the winter on one day. Would I be able to do that with a coverless one? Do you wash them every week/couple of weeks?

The Herringbone one from Night Lark is the softest, nicest feeling one I have. DH who is a cotton bedding puritan really likes it. In contrast I got the linen print one from the same company and sent it back as it has that shiny polyester feeling.

I wash it weekly and it would definitely dry in a day hung over the bannister or an airer. It's the 4.5 tog one. I tumble dry it and it's dry in an hour.

I did have the waffle cotton one from Night Lark but it takes an AGE to dry, so wouldn't recommend that one.

Ellejay67 · 12/12/2023 11:15

Yes I have them. Still don't understand how they work. But brilliant.

BigBundleOfFluff · 12/12/2023 11:20

@pastypirate - I'm rubbish at links! I just got off Amazon. I've checked the price and it's £43 for 4 today - that's way too much. They frequently go on offer - last time I bought in November and it was £21 for 4.
There are many choices - my cameras are Tapo as well so I went for the same plugs so it was all under the same app.

I've just got NHS ones, they have all of that as well as Bluetooth. Audiology told me they update aids every 3 years so you always get the latest ones.

Actually yes!! Having been all negative about robot vacuums, airfryers and nail wraps I forgot about my coverless duvet which I ADORE. I know have one winter one summer and they feel amazing!! And they absolutely do dry in a day (a lot less really) either on the line, a radiator or a bannister.

I also forgot about my lash serum, I've used many (Rapidlash, UKLash, Revitalash) but my current favourite, is also the cheapest and works so well. It's this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C2VZLDGX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Rightfully so, as your comments poorly thought through at best and ableist at worst @Trixiefirecracker

Speaking of brushes - got this Wet Brush recently and it has been a revelation - we now have several all round the house, and they have made brushing DD's hair go from nightmare to dream. Worth its weight in gold

Thank you, just ordered this!

It's amazing for the £1.50 or whatever it is. I spray it in the (bit ropey) dishwasher and use it to clean the filters.

Also you can use it to remove permanent marker from plastic tubs (not tried it on fabric). Dp has an annoying habit of writing on plastic tubs to go in the freezer instead on using the fecking label maker. Though he hasn't risked this on the bamboo and glass tubs from ikea he he.

I digress. Elbow grease just spray it on the marker pen and come back later and it will wipe straight off.

I use a Posca chalk pen to label my freezer tubs. Stays on in the freezer, but wipes off with a soapy cloth. Easier to read than Sharpie too.

A house after losing ours in the crash. Fourteen years of abusive landlords, £412k in rent and moving costs. We had 9 landlords, only two were nice. The last one hugged me and thanked me. The rest were horrible. One even has a police caution for his behaviour towards us. I am thankful everyday.

stardust777 · 12/12/2023 13:00

Congrats@Matchinglipsandfingertips !

My buy of 2023 was a spot treatment.

Hero pimple patches have helped keep my combination skin in check, and improved my skin texture.

A mini dishwasher which doesn't need to be plumbed in (tiny kitchen here!)

Which brand did you get? Just moved to a rental with no dishwasher and considering this!

Air fryer forgot how to use a cooker

It's great for freezer food like that but the best things I make most often in our Ninja dual are:

Roast chicken in one side (it can fit up to a 1.3kg whole chicken). Cook it upside down for 30 mins on 180 then flip it over and cook for a further 20 mins. You can do your roast potatoes in the other side and use the sync mode to make sure they're ready at the same time. I just serve with steamed green veg and gravy for very easy mid-week roasts.

Wrap chicken breasts in parma ham and air fry in one basket and do a load of roast Mediterranean veg in the other (I do cherry tomatoes, sliced courgettes, peppers and onions.) Light dinner done or I may serve with a packet of microwaveable rice if I want to bulk it out a bit.

It's brilliant for jacket potatoes or for warming up those part baked rolls (takes 5 mins or 7 mins from frozen) to have with soup etc.

Knee high, waterproof walking boots - think Toggi, but a different, cheaper brand (still just as good so far!). We take the dogs out for walks a lot in the forest and by the sea, and we have recently got an allotment too, so they're fab. I have been up to my ankles in mud/puddles before and my feet have remained bone-dry. Like wellies but much comfier.

Same for my Seasalt Coverack rain coat - I was sceptical with the price but I waited for a sale and honestly, it's fab. It can be absolutely pelting it and I'm still dry underneath as it has taped seams, and yet I don't start to feel clammy in it the way I usually do in other waterproofs. I got it in a khaki green and am now hoping they bring out black again too as it has slowly crept from being just my "out walking the dogs" jacket to my "any time it might possibly rain" jacket...

I think I'd be remiss not to mention our allotment itself too actually - £75 a year and we've got 250 square metres including about 20 existing beds, an established walnut tree, a cherry tree, a small shed (with lots of tools and gardening gloves etc. left in it!), among other things... I grew up without a garden and we haven't bought a house yet so having our own place we can put a stamp on and grow fruit and veg is lovely, even if all we're doing for now is preparing for spring planting.

Lastly (I think?), an Owala Freesip water bottle. I have had several different types and brands as I am terrible for drinking water otherwise. I work in healthcare and this is the only one I've found so far that is insulated, has a straw lid and handle, AND a lid that covers everywhere your mouth would possibly touch when drinking.

Is this the Elbow Grease degreaser spray or is there a special stain removing one. Havn't seen that one and I use lots of EG products.

pastypirate · 12/12/2023 14:15

@FishPie2 it's the ordinary degreaser spray. I have used it many times to get grease out of clothes just not marker pen

Onand · 12/12/2023 14:37

Waterpik flosser- honestly it’s crazy what it removes, beats floss and the teepees all day long
