Can anyone please suggest some Netflix recommendations for me?

I've just purchased Netflix for the first time so that I can watch Black Mirror but I'm wondering what else to watch. There's just too much choice.

I'm not good with long American series with 30 episodes per season and ten seasons but Ilove anthology series, period dramas, 70s and 80s tv series and documentaries.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've done that but there's too much choice and I'm not at all familiar with most of the shows.

The documentary Bad Surgeon : Love under the knife is well worth a watch .

The Gilded Age? Beautiful costumes & about the struggle for those of new money to be accepted by those with old money in New York. Sub plots also abound: building railroads being one.

Bodies with Stephen Graham, I'm on episode 3.

Killing Eve and Inside Man (though they were both on the BBC originally).

I really like Brooklyn 99 and Schitts Creek. Both American with quite a few series but the episodes are 20ish mins long. You'll only need to watch 2 or 3 episodes to know if they're for you or not.

The Crown, if that's your bag. Though I've not watched it (not my bag).

The good thing about Netflix is once you've watched a few things it'll suggest other shows for you to try.

Fall of the House of Usher is a masterpiece that seamlessly plays homage to Edgar Allen Poe’s most famous horror stories.

Documentary wise you must watch Blackfish. I’ve bullied everyone I know into watching it. It’s centered around an orca called Tilikum who was captured as a juvenile and kept in captivity. It’s such an interesting and sad watch.
