Exhaustion after flu

AfterFluSlump · 09/12/2023 11:16

I've just come out of the end of over a week of flu and bronchitis which has knocked me for six.
Now dreading returning to work Monday as I feel utterly wiped out and listless.

I need a miracle old-fashioned 'tonic' to replenish my energy. Does such a thing exist? Does anyone have any tried and tested post-illness boosters, please?

Thanks in advance.

Following with interest as I'm in the same situation.

Hope we get some suggestions!

Honestly? Take more time off. If you're going back to work already knackered you'll take longer to feel better.

I've been the same in the past if not well enough take time off work drink more fluids not alcohol lol ! But I did find that lemon and ginger tea helped me as well

I swear by purple velvets (pint of Guinness with a shot of port in it )and if I’m really desperate which I am at the moment I buy a box of Pregnacare postnatal breastfeeding vitamins and work my way through them. They’re jammed with all sorts and the box says you can take them “for as long as required after giving birth and breastfeeding” - so I take that to mean 5 years is still fine 👍🏻😂

Hope you feel better soon, OP. It’s a rough winter virus season this year for sure!!

Betatone tonic can be good, haven't seen it for a while though. I think it's basically B1 vitamin and minerals.

Sorry, I meant Metatone

There is no such tonic - although tonics will claim to do this.

You need more time off work.

I was off work for two weeks with ear infection followed by chest infection. Went back to work exhausted. Was back in bed by the Friday and off again all last week. If you feel not well still, do not go back.

I saw doc again and I've been signed off for a few more days. Definitely the right thing to do - thanks all!

You definitely need more time off, glad you've been signed off for longer. I had flu when I was 30 and had two weeks off work - I tried to go back after 1.5 weeks and nearly fainted walking to the office. Horrible. I remember suddenly realising I actually felt better six weeks later.
