Karaoke options when you only like sad songs

Gang - can you help me out? Works Christmas party next week. Karaoke is a big feature, and expected that each team will do a turn.

My team have left it to me to decide. Problem is that I'm only like/know sad songs...I'm into sad country songs or guitar based 90s britpop...
None of which make for good karaoke

We're all keen to do it but don't want to make a fool of ourselves.

Any suggestions welcome

Wonderwall obviously.

You need one of those big end of the night songs that the whole pub sings along to like Mr Brightside or Sweet Caroline or I Want It That Way and you need to get your team about two thirds of the way down the running list so everyone has had a few drinks and is in a good mood. Soon as you start singing everyone will join in, any bad singing will be drowned out and everyone will say "ah that was great" without having actually heard you sing.

I can see clearly now (Jimmy Cliff). Always a good one, everyone likes it.

Fairytale of New York
I wish it could be Christmas every day

Wonder wall is a good shout, but country house is also immense fun, and not vocally challenging, just needs attitude.
My favourite karaoke song is Brian Adams, summer of 69

ZenNudist · 08/12/2023 21:33

Choosing sad songs:

All byyyy myseeeelf, don't wanna beeee alllll by myself (dah dah dah)

It must have been love by Roxette is my fave but you need good strong soprano

I also love my immortal by evanescence but again, hard to sing

Oooh sad and good: I can't help falling in love with you by elvis?

Sweeeet Caroline goes down well

New york new york ditto

Somewhere beyond the sea

Piggletta · 08/12/2023 21:34

My surprising karaoke crowd pleaser was 'she will be loved' by Maroon 5. Or maybe they were trying to get me off asap

ZenNudist · 08/12/2023 21:36

Why don't you do a popular britpop song you love and know well?

Parklife is great

Country House whilst my least favourite blur song has everyone singing along

Ooh or sad and 90s This is a low

Whataretheodds · 08/12/2023 21:38

Yep you want the kind of thing that everyone wants to sing along to so they're all shouting along/grabbing the mic off you

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/12/2023 21:50

Stand by Your Man = Rawhide mashup. Gives you both types of music.

mambojambodothetango · 08/12/2023 21:56

More than Words by Extreme. It's my Go to karaoke (in my head).

BlueThursday · 08/12/2023 21:56

Four Non Blondes What’s Going On

EvilRingahBitch · 09/12/2023 00:57

I think you'd need to practice for 9-5. A lot of fast lyrics, but if you can master it it's a banger.

EssAyyBee · 09/12/2023 01:05

Sinead O'Connor - nothing compares to you

Ortila · 09/12/2023 01:08

Uptown Girl is easy to sing - not too hard to remember the words as lots of woah-woahs, no really fast lyrics and the tune doesn't jump around too much. Also a good chance that people will join in with it.
