Does anyone have a Sodastream?

Which model please and how do you find it? How long do your gas cylinders last and how easy are they to get. Thinking of getting one but not sure which!

yes! i love it and drink liters of fizzy water every day. mine is a fancy aarke one but i started out with a basic model sodastream, they all do the same thing so just pick the one you like the look of. i get through a cylinder of gas a month, and that's having at least 2 liters, usually more a day. i have a subscription gas thing through co2you and they deliver 4 cylinders at a time. would recommend

Cheeesus · 08/12/2023 17:21

We just got this one - have been pondering one for a while and this is a good deal.

I think it will mainly be my DS who uses it when friends are over, and me a bit for making water a bit more interesting.

I think it says how many l the cylinders do. We worked out that it doesn’t really save money, not on supermarket branded drinks anyway.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/12/2023 17:26

I've got an Aarke. Was really worried that I would end up not using it, but I use it loads.

2 cylinders lasted 5 months generally drinking 1-2L a day. £32 to refill 2 cylinders by post.

I'm sure supermarket fizzy water is cheaper, but buying bottled water is not great for the planet.

Yes and I love it. I got the basic one, you have to press the button to fizz. I only drink sparkling water and the amount of plastic bottles was getting a bit much. It's only me that uses it and the gas lasts about 5-6 weeks.

It doesn't work out any cheaper than buying water if that's your incentive though and all the flavours are revolting.

weegiemum · 08/12/2023 17:34

I have an older make of SodaStream (looked on their website but it's not there any more) which gets used every single day! I drink several litres of water a day, about half of it is carbonated.

Not sure how long a cylinder lasts but I find it no bother to replace them, I live fairly close to a large The Range and they stock it. I think Asda might too.

I think it's cheaper than supermarket water and it's definitely better using my glass bottle in the sodastream than buying endless green plastic bottles!!

Malariahilaria · 08/12/2023 17:37

I have a sodastream from about 4 years ago. Use it 2 or 3 times daily so well worth the reduction in plastic bottles as I only drink fizzy water.

Tried their subscription service but felt conned so now I go to the range every 6 months or so and buy six cannisters and get half for returning empties. Never bothered with their flavours I just squeeze in some lime juice or pop in a fruit tea bag. Really love mine as would never drink water otherwise.

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/12/2023 17:37

We have an Aarke it works well but I agree with the pp that I would be very surprised if a less expensive version produces a different product. I use filtered water and have 2 bottles on the go all the time. I swap the gas canisters at a local hardware shop. Lots of places do them I just like to support the local business.I am not spending less on my fizzy water habit but there are many fewer plastic bottles.

Caspianberg · 08/12/2023 17:42

We have an Aarke also. Love it.
We just exchange the canisters at local supermarket easily

ScottBakula · 08/12/2023 17:50

I have a soda stream branded one , I think I got it from lakeland. In the summer a cylinder last about 8/ 10 weeks , in the winter about 3 months.
I agree with pp the syrups are awful and expensive, I tend to use vimto , rose lime cordial , orange cordial etc .

Moredarkchocolateplease · 08/12/2023 17:52

A bottle of gas lasts us 3 weeks exactly. Just for fizzy water.

Not sure of the model. It's black and plastic and doesn't have writing on.

I get the refills from The Range or Argos.

I usually buy exchange three bottles at a time.

WelshFionaThePlasticSurgeryGorgon · 08/12/2023 17:53

Ah it's good to hear that you can exchange bottles easily.

I had a soda stream, it was an absolute nightmare! Replaced 3 times in 12 months then I gave up and went for an Aarke.

Echoing above posters - we love it and get good use out of it. The build quality is so much better than soda stream.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 08/12/2023 18:04

We’ve had a Terra for about 6 months now and only just replaced the first bottle of gas (pink bottle). We took ours to the local hardware shop and only had to pay £14 for the refill.
Hard to say how many bottles of fizzy water we’ve had over 6 months, but it feels like it’s lasted a long time. Definitely recommend based on our experience so far. Not sure how long the average soda stream lasts?

WelshNerd · 08/12/2023 18:06

I've just bought a new one, from an older model to the black Gaia model. We have the gas subscription for £120 for one a month. We use it loads and it's achieved it's goal of reducing our plastic usage.

ThePoshUns · 08/12/2023 18:08

I've got the basic one just use it for water .
Love it and saves so much in plastic waste.
Gas lasts a while and the bottles are easily exchanged at my local Argos

Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic · 08/12/2023 18:13

I think if you’re getting it mainly for fizzy water it’s ok, if you’re getting it for fizzy drinks like lemonade and cola it’s not worth it. They don’t taste great.

whatapity · 08/12/2023 18:40

We found the gas cylinders didn't really last. We gave ours away as we stopped using it after a while.

whatapity · 08/12/2023 18:41

That was a sodastream

I just use posh cordial for flavours.

Camembertcufflinks · 08/12/2023 19:03

Can't live without ours, although when our Sodastream branded machine broke recently (after very little use) we have bought an Aarke Carbonator 3. It's much better, much more solid (metal components) and produces nicer fizz.

mindutopia · 08/12/2023 20:13

No idea what model and got it somewhere online maybe 3-4 years ago.

The bottles are easy to find. We get the at Argos or many hardware type shops also exchange them. Bottle lasts maybe a month? I’m not sure really. We use it every day and get 2 new bottles at a time maybe 4 ish times a year.

Has saved us a small fortune on fizzy water which we drink a lot of.

WelshFionaThePlasticSurgeryGorgon · 08/12/2023 20:26

This is all very useful - thanks everyone. I had never heard of Aarke.

OP posts:
Caspianberg · 09/12/2023 06:30

@WelshFionaThePlasticSurgeryGorgon - we have had our Aarke 4-5 years. As others said it’s solid, no plastic. So it’s as new still. The soda stream in shop
felt like cheap China Knock off products
