Ok so I’m out of work with health issues for myself and also looking after my som cut to the main part I get universal credit housing element I’m currently in a private let and have a private landlord currently the rent gets sent to him personally also I have a small amount of rent arrears that comes of my money also every month as i agreed.

I have recently been offered a new house my local council and sign for my keys next week so I will be changing over tenancy agreements to universal credit how does this work when I send in my new agreement. Will the continue to take rent arrears off my money even though I’ve change tenancy to a new housing or do I need no contact my current landlord and arrange to pay these back myself?

Haha, sorry I know, but it's such a specific circumstance then you're likely to get the best answer from UC. At least then they can be held accountable if the information is incorrect

Your third party deductions for arrears will stop automatically as they do with every change of circumstances as will your direct rent payment.
You can however request direct rent payments from UC and tell your council you want the rent paid directly to them.

I don't think UC can continue paying your arrears directly to an old landlord though so you may have to sort this privately :)

You pay your arrears to your old landlord.

Hello, I’ve never posted on here before so apologies if I’ve done it wrong. I currently live in a part rent, part buy house. I wasn’t aware that I could get help with the rent with universal credit as there is no button to press, it’s either mortgage or rent on the initial form. Will universal credit back date this does anyone know ? Thanks
