How many photos per year do you keep?

I've been going through the mammoth task of sorting out photos from the last few years, majority stored on Google Photos.

My question is, how many photos do people keep a year? How many is enough?

About 30.

Peepshowcreepshow · 08/12/2023 01:01

Kid, friends, holidays, days out, gigs etc - about 100
The cats - seven billion

XenoBitch · 08/12/2023 01:03

None of me, not much of other people. Maybe about 30 of 'things'.
My dog however, I keep very single one. All 4k of them.

Confused38246 · 08/12/2023 06:53

I print them into one of those free prints style books every 3 to 4 months then feel less awkward about being ruthless with deleting them.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 08/12/2023 06:54

We're supposed to delete photos?

PinkGrapefruitSorbet · 08/12/2023 07:07

I collect up all our photos (me, DH, DS) and make a photo book once a year. It started when I made DS's baby book and I just kept going each birthday (he's 14 now). I usually use around 150 photos per book which feels enough to capture what we've been up to, but I guess the number depends on what you're trying to achieve.

StopLickingTheDog · 08/12/2023 07:10

I'm currently mid mammoth task of putting them all on to USB sticks by year. It's tedious but will continue to do so regularly once up to date so should be easier.

BobBilby · 08/12/2023 07:13

Hundreds! I make a photo book each year and it’s normally 100 pages with multiple photos on each page. This is the problem with digital photography isn’t it, once I’ve taken them I don’t want to delete them.

SheIsStuck23 · 08/12/2023 07:17

I print off every photo of my children that I ever take and put them in photo albums.

Every time I get about 250 of them on my iPhone camera roll (including photos of them that other people send to me) I send the pictures off to get printed.

My children are 9 and 7 and I have just under 8000 photos them in my large
collection of photo albums 😂😂

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/12/2023 07:23

I'm old fashioned, I try & print an albums worth per year. I do an additional album if we have a holiday. They're fun to look through on a wet after. I also regularly delete my many screenshots & random pictures from my camera roll & cloud to try & keep it somewhat streamlined.

FiveCows · 08/12/2023 07:25

I do a printed every year on 1st January of the previous year’s highlights. This year it’s going to have around 700 in. I rarely delete any though off my phone - do other people?

Ostryga · 08/12/2023 07:26

I’ve currently got 40,000 photos on my phone and god knows how many in my Dropbox. Cost me a fortune each month in storage!

olympicsrock · 08/12/2023 07:29

I keep them all. More than a thousand for sure

WashingAt30 · 08/12/2023 07:37

I try very hard to delete the crap photos and the repetitive ones to stop it getting out of hand, but I'm an obsessive photographer with a phone and a traditional camera, so there are thousands of new photos each year.

DoooooWhoop · 08/12/2023 09:06

If there's a moment of something special, I'll take about ten and then delete 9 and keep best one.

Also my friend sends me millions of her photos via WhatsApp all of the same thing, it drives me mad when one will do.

Yes I want to do the yearly photobook too, is the Google photo book good?

@FiveCows can I ask what album you use to store? I've got about 8000 photos printed in albums, but wanted to try to reduce slightly and do a album a year for each age, but struggling to find an album that will hold about 600-700 photos!
Many thanks 😊

Sammie2510 · 02/01/2024 10:04

@SheIsStuck23 what album do you use please?

Sammie2510 · 02/01/2024 10:05

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints what albums do you use please?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 03/01/2024 10:12

@Sammie2510 I use these ones that hold 600 & these that hold 200 usually as holiday albums.
I've found both good quality, the children look through them regularly & they handle well without ripping etc.

Sylver75 · 03/01/2024 10:21

I keep ones with people in, mostly delete the ones of scenery, etc.

I use Snapfish so get 50 free prints per month and I've just ordered a photo book of my pics for 2023. They have 50% off sales a few times a year so it's not so expensive as you'd think. An album or book will be looked through much more than I'll ever scroll back through hundreds of pics on my phone.

ChilledToTheBone · 03/01/2024 10:23

I've just ordered 3 photo books each with around 900 pic's since June 2023.
Need to cut down. A because its tonnes b, because it just cost £315 in printing.

We do a lot of special days out, events weekly so i take a lot. Its a weird obsession

Sammie2510 · 03/01/2024 10:26

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints thanks for your reply. I saw these, my problem is I want to make little notes next to photos. I may have to accept that I need 2 per year, which won't help my storage 🙈 thanks again 😊

Mirrorballsocial · 03/01/2024 11:20

All of them in Google photos. I'm surprised my people regularly delete them tbh.

Sammie2510 · 03/01/2024 13:31

@ChilledToTheBone what albums do you use? Do they have space to write next to the photos?

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2024 13:32

I don't delete any, just got good storage on google photos
