Has anyone else noticed a glut of begging threads on their FB feed recently?

I realise times are hard, but it seems to be rampant this year.. mostly posted 'anonymously' too.

I haven't, but here normally suffers from them at this time of year. Normally starting with "I'm not after money".
So I'm not surprised FB is getting them too.

Yep on my local town page, constant anonymous posts asking for furniture and white goods. Normally saying they've fled DV or young girls saying they are pregnant and starting with 'nothing' and need it free and delivered. It's at least 2 a day at the minute

topshotta · 07/12/2023 16:17

Nextdoor is worst for this

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/12/2023 16:19

Same here @monicagellerbing exactly the same.

I wouldn't give to a random on the net . Anyone in genuine need can be referred to an appropriate charity by health visitor/social services etc .

Interesting.

I've never seen so many on FB. Seems one has tipped a load more off and there are 3/4 each day now.

Yep. On the local FB community page. They've now kicked off a pair of absolute chancers after they took the piss out of umpteen members of the town including fleecing them of cash and cigarettes....

@irritation2345678 And if you go on their private page they have lip fillers, tattoos, eye lashes, fake nails and they show pics of their last night out last week!! just the whole lot so they obviously dont deserve it!

There's a lady on Olio that frequently requests the most bizzare items and at least once a month Dr Pepper and batteries.
I like to check up on her once a week and guess what she's going to do with the Gyroscope and Theremin.

It’s the same every year. There’s been a lot on mumsnet too, as always.

Tinkerbyebye · 07/12/2023 18:11

Yes normally starting

i have had to flee because of DV please can anyone give me, tables, chairs, beds, wardrobes, tvs, settees , cooker, all white goods etc etc

or I am moving into my own place has anyone got, see list above

or asking for a friend

or I only have £3 to last me two weeks can anyone help me, and getting annoyed when people point out where the food banks are or offer help but not money
All anonymous

winds me up, there’s plenty of charity shops out there, plenty of posts from people saying this is going for free, or mentioning food banks
