Using too much gas??

Our gas bill last month was higher than we were expecting. I’m convinced the boiler is coming on when it’s not supposed to, the hot water tank is constantly making low level noise.
The immersion is not on.
The heating has not been on today.
The hot water has been on for an hour.
The smart meter says we’ve used 24.1kwh of gas - this is high right?? For no heating and one hour of hot water. The only other thing that’s gas is the hob and that’s not been on.
Could anyone else who hasn’t had heating on tell me how many kWh you’ve used today please?

I'd monitor the smart meter over a few hours when absolutely nothing is being used. If it's moving, get your heating engineer out to check boiler and immersion.

We're not on a smart meter, but just checked and we used 29kw a day last month (heating was set to 3 hours a day, although cutting out before that), and includes hot water and hob cooking. We have a combi boiler and I do know it uses a high level of energy to heat water, so not sure what's normal.

Well it’s now on 26kwh, not even midday, heating not been on at all. I’m keeping it off today as an experience and we’re freezing!
When I’ve looked at what we were using for a whole month in the summer (300-400 per month) somethings not right.
